I have a 2007 XB9SX that doesnt seem to want to run. I was riding at lunch with the gas tank low (about 10 miles since the low fuel light came on). And the bike quit on me. Figured i was out of gas (though it seemed like i shouldve made it further) and called the tow truck. 45 min later i set off with a tank full of gas of questionable octane rating. Something seemed not quite right; it didnt seem like it was running very smoothly. I got back to work though. After work the problems set in. It would start just fine, but would only idle for a few seconds. The only way i could keep it running is by working the throttle open and closed vigorously. As it warmed up it got better and i could eventually ride home. A few days later i tried again with the same result, but i gave up after a few cranks. I hooked up ECMSpy. There were no error codes; I reset the TPS and the AFV (which was very close to 100, maybe 106?) Still same problem. With no throttle, it would fire right up and idle normally for 3-5 seconds before abruptly dying. mileage is ~6000 I did just put a new battery in recently. I was gonna drain the fuel next to see what lurks in the bottom of the tank. Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance |

Electrical issue masquerading as fuel supply. Check your coil wires and cam position sensor wire harness. You have put new plugs in since the questionable gas? Ever change the fuel filter? (Message edited by harleyelf on December 16, 2011) |

My 07 XB9SX has been acting the same way until it warms up. Almost acting like it had water in the gas but I filled up and put fuel stabilizer in it and not it only seems to do it on really cold starts or when its low on gas. Very confusing. |
