I recently had to put a new exhaust after 2 breaks at the mounting and i read alot of stuff before deciding on a Jardine Rt1. Was extremely hard to get on right and had a leak 1st time around. After 2nd attempt it seemed tight but the bike was running bad!! No power and would bog down when i throttled. Saw here about re-jetting so I did that, also replaced the das boot which looked fine but wasnt taking any chances. Carb has been completely cleaned and looks fantastic! Now the bike will barely start and it dies when i try to throttle... Something strange i did figure out is there is a short i think in the ignition tho. I have to wiggle it sometime to get it to light up.Please help!! Thanks so much : )

If you have to jiggle your key to get current flow, the switch is shot. Unplug it and short across the contacts to test.

Ok.. but is this gonna have anything to do with why the bike wont throttle?? It starts fine.. just wont idle for long or dies if i gas it???

Spark, compression, fuel. If you have all three your engine runs. If the spark is erratic due to inadequate current flow through the switch it could prevent running above idle. More likely is a slow jet issue, or maybe the main jet fell out of its mount. Have you tried starting fluid to see if carburetion is the issue? If it dies with ether being squirted into the intake your problem is electrical.

I just put those jets in per the advice i saw posted here... ive taken off the carb and checked them twice to make sure they are in properly.. it ran the day i took the carb off to rejet so was thinking it had to be something i changed : ( So i will go try ur suggestion.. spray into carb while running?? and if it dies its electrical??

Yup. The fluid is like a fuel/air mix right out of the can. If your motor ever ran strong and hasn't made any loud banging noises since, your compression is fine. With an explosive mixture flowing through das boot and good compression, all that's left is spark. For the test, unplug your ignition switch and lay a hunk of solder across the terminals. If it runs strong, take the solder out and turn the key on. If that kills it, it is the switch. Also, Judy, I just looked over the Thumper posts and saw a possibility; the wires to the automatic enrichener. Are you positive you did not reverse them?

I'm not sure myself what auto-choke wires he was talking about... not a Blast owner. Lots of carburetor threads in the Thumper section. Is the low speed adjusting screw where it belongs?

Thumper forum - Knowledge vault - Engine - Carburetion... has a picture of your carburetor with the float bowl off. There's a screw marked idle mixture screw near das boot. If it has a problem that would explain all your symptoms. You are certain you have adequate fuel flow out of the tank? No fuel filter or petcock screen blockages?

What broke around your exhaust? Could your head have cracked? Have you ever checked your timing? How long have you had the bike? Did it ever run with good power?

Ive had the bike 2 yrs and it ran great until the exhaust broke off..It was running like crap after i put the Jardine on and i drove it to my friends a week ago to re-jet it, it ran ok but didnt have the power it did before. thats why i thought it needed re-jetted, thats what i read in the forum to do.

The exhaust stud is okay? You are correct in expecting to re-jet after an exhaust change. Is there any vacuum hose fitting on the carburetor that might have lost its hose? You're certain that your plug wire and coil wires are on tight? Got a multi-meter?

She said in the first post that she changed it, you think there's a hunk of crud in there causing a bad seal? The fact that it runs great now with a restriction plate makes me think that may be the case. Judy, try it again and make sure all the mating surfaces really mate up. There's no issue with your spark or compression if it ever runs great; that leaves fuel mix. If the carburetor makes a good mix and it can't get to the motor through das boot, you will get the symptoms you have got.
