I have a 2001 Buell Blast and it's having starting trouble. I put the key in and lights are fine. I flip the kill switch, put up the kickstand, pull in the clutch and hit the ignition. The engine tries to turn over, but won't. I didn't have this problem previously. I checked the battery and when fully detached, it reads 12.78, which should be good. I have taken apart the carburetor and used a carburetor cleaner (Gumout) to spray it down. I've also replaced the main jet in the carb (I had an extra main jet so I decided just to switch it). I've drained the gas tank and fill it only with premium now. The air filter, petcock, carb jets, and battery all look fine. I haven't checked the carb boot at all. I can start it when I give it a running start while holding the clutch and then ease it out and hit the ignition. So I know that it can run. Why won't it turn over? If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. |

Have you tried jumping the battery to a car battery? Sometimes the extra juice will knock a bad connection into working. Take the negative battery cable off and sand smooth the place where it bolts to the frame of all corrosion. Check for loose battery cables, while you're at it. The starter end of the hot cable could be loose. |

I have tried charging the battery more, but that hasn't worked. I'll check the cables. |

The connections look fine. Another thing that could help, once I get it started by running with it, I can usually ride for a while, turn it off, then turn it back on without any issues. |

Get your battery load tested at a reputable battery shop. |

I'm having a similar problem. Was thinking it may be the voltage regulator/rectifier. Any input? |

Check your voltage when running. If you have 14V or better, the battery or a ground connection is at fault. If not, it's your regulator or stator or stator harness. Do you have a service manual? |
