My 2009 Buell 1125R (yeah, I know, it's a rocketship on two wheels, and I'm an old guy, but so what?) was experiencing alternator problems - not charging the battery sufficiently. Left me stranded, actually, when it wouldn't restart. I researched the issue online, spoke with another Buell 1125R owner (a serious rider who's a mechanical engineer with several Buells), and measured the charging voltages myself directly with a voltmeter. Decided it was a warranty issue. Since the bike is still under warranty I took it to Central Texas Harley-Davidson in Round Rock TX because they're a little closer. Big Mistake. They said they couldn't find ANYTHING wrong, but assured me that I'd be far more comfortable in a more expensive upgraded cruiser -- and that they'd be VERY happy to take the Buell in trade -- THAT AFTERNOON, i.e., RIGHT AWAY, while I waited. The reason the battery wasn't getting charged, they said, had to do with the "stator" being cut back to something called 'half capacity' when the engine gets hot . But that wasn't the case with me, as I tried to explain to little effect -- I had ridden the bike in this case only 10 miles before it conked out, so it couldn't have been too hot. This really isn't right, and I oughtta know -- I actually have a degree in electrical engineering. These guys have really lost my confidence with this call. The comprehensive Buell shop manual says there are four causes of this problem, and they didn't mention even one of them in their 'diagnosis.' I think they were just trying to finagle me into getting a new bike, then fixing mine and reselling it. When I took it down the road to Cowboy H-D, they fixed it quickly under warranty, and it's been fine since. |

CEN-TEX HD IS BAD NEWS!!! Went in for a TPS reset and came out with a broken throttle shaft. "It's a mechanical part that is going to fail." I rode 160 miles to get there for an ETS and had to come back a week later with a truck, AND pay $125. Crooks all of them, especially ANDRE LECOMPTE (the owner) and JOE CAMPONESCKI (Service Manager). Neither of them, incidentally, are featured on their website. |
