About a week ago my bike began to miss/stumble when the engine is hot and holding a steady speed. At first it was mild but progressed to the point last Sunday that it would not accelerate from a stop and I hardly made it home, but if I cracked it wide open it was all there and would nearly flip over. After searching and reading on here I checked the ecm and mine was cracked open at both connectors so I thought that was the issue and ordered a new ecm from Eric Buell Racing. I received it today installed it zeroed the tps and went for a test ride. At first I thought all was well but after about 5-6 miles when it started to heat up the same thing started to happen. I need help on where to go next.

Oh I forgot...about 3 times now when I go to start it it will crank but not start, does this 2-3 attemps the theres a hugh backfire through the exhaust, very loud with a drummer, then on the next try it will start right up.
Its an 06 Uly with 15k mi. a Drummer, 07 air box cover and k&n filter. I had an oem race ecm and now the ebr ecm and still same problem.

When I installed the ecm I was on my lunch hour and ran out of time, so when I got home I checked for codes with ecm spy and there was an 11 code for the throtle position sensor, which is strange because I never had a code before replacing the ecm. So I followed the diagnostic tree in the shop manual and looks like the tps is bad, going to try and get one today and will update when I know if its fixed or not.

Did you inspect your throttle shaft carefully? Seems to be a fair amount of broken ones about these days...

Al,
Thanks, I did look at that and from what i can see there are no cracks and its not binding so I believe it is ok. The tps HD part number 29537-99Y is 94.99 from the steelership and would have to be ordered. I noticed a ford emblem and after some research found it is a ford part #E8AF-9B989AA used on many late 80s early 90s fomoco vehicles. I called ford and its 85.00 and has to be ordered. Checked with local aftermarket car part stores and it ranged from 33.00 to 50.00 and had to be ordered so I ordered a new one with a lifetime warranty delivered to my house for 45.00, then at lunch ran out to pick n pull and got one off a 89 lincoln town car and will install it tonight as a temporary one till I get the new one.

ok so the pins on my throttle shaft are vertical but the tabs on the used tps are roughly horizontal. I drove 90 miles to the only harley dealer that had a new tps and its tabs were also sideways so I didnt buy it. I got home and tried to install the used tps by turning it 45 degrees counter clockwise so the tabs would engage the pins on the throttle shaft then rotated it so I could put the bolts in, tightened the bolts and hooked up ecm spy. It read 100% throttle with the throttle closed, I zeroed it out then with the throttle closed it reads 4.3v slowly turn the throttle it will go to 16% at 5.0v the it goes back down and all readings are 0. The parts guys at the dealership looked up the tps two times with me watching and it was the correct part number they wanted to sell me but the tabs arent oriented the same as the original, What do I do now?

Well after about an hour of searching bad web I found a service bulletin about a production change with the throttle body and tps. he old style has the tangs at 2&8 o'clock and The new style has the tangs at 1&7 o'clock. this was changed from jan to march 2006. My bike was built 08/2005 but has the new style throttle body / tps sensor. The bulletin gives the new part number (P0279.3AA) but apparently the dealership computers don't have foot notes for this as two dealers have both looked up the wrong number. I am going to call the local dealer when they open at 9am and see if they have the new part number in stock and hopefully this will take care of my issues.

If you don't come up with one there, I have 3 of the .3AA 's in stock, but I don't have them up on the webs site yet, so you'd need to call your order. It's our part number 17492.

Thanks Al, I found one in south carolina should have it in a few days. I work at a car dealership (GM) and we sell parts for the list price sometimes less if its a high dollar item and theres a lot of mark up but we don't go over msrp. When I was calling around every dealer had a different price from 74.00 to 105.00, I think msrp is around 93.00 which is what I paid. The one I went to get yesterday that was the wrong part number my local dealer, AD Farrow, wanted 95.00 and when I got to the other dealer they only wanted 78.00?
