2005 XB12. Overhauled motor. New gaskets from base gasket up. Took it for the first 20 mile ride (motoman break-in) and it was covered in oil on the right side, above the right footpeg. Anyways, I finally got around to taking it apart. I wasn't sure if it was the pushrod covers or the rocker box gaskets. I put a generous amount of hylomar on the rocker box gaskets on assembly. After taking the intake cover off, it's evident that there is NO oil leaking from the rockers--only the tops of the pushrod covers, where they mate to the head. My question: is it possible to "plug" the leaking o-rings at the top of the pushrod covers (bottoms of the heads) with some Black oil-resistant RTV? Or would I be better off to take it all apart again, hylomar the o-rings and make sure it goes together properly? Just a bit frustrated--don't really relish the thought of tearing it all down after having just assembled it... Thanks. |
