Hi, I'm starting to take apart my '98 S1 and the ground connection for the battery is rusted up pretty bad. Can I just use WD-40 or something to loosen it up or what? |

You can try that, but I personally find fluids like "Nut Off" work better. |

If it's the one on the battery . . . cover it with some baking soda and put a couple table spoons of water on it. Better living through chemistry. |

Hey there. Usually the ones on the battery corrode so it should be cleaned with a baking soda and water mix to remove the corrosion then burnish with a wire brush or emery cloth then reattach and spray a battery post protectant on the posts. The positive going to the starter can be done the same way. The ground to the frame will usually rust because of the steel so it can be cleaned then just reattach and spray a little clear coat on the connection to retard the rusting process plus it keeps the connection looking better longer. |
