I have a 2008 XB9SX. Can someone supply the Temperatures that turn on the fan Low and high speed and turn off the fan. I am guessing the ECM recieves the temp from the rear head sensor. Thanks |

The on/off temperatures vary depending on your firmware version. Buell changed it a few times on the DFFI3 bikes. |

How about 2005-2007 XBs models? Would it be different between 9s and 12s since the 12s always seem to be hotter? |

On the 2004-2007s with BUEGB231 firmware the temps are. It doesn't matter if its the 9 or 12. Key-On ON temp - 170C or 338F Key-On OFF temp - 130C or 266F Key-Off ON temp - 120C or 248F Key-Off OFF temp - 100C or 212F |

I just read my tables and scalars through TunerPro, but I'm not sure if I believe it. I've datalogged my bike warming up and it turns the fan on around 100*C, well below the datapoints found in the tune. |

How can I update the firmware to the newer fan on/off temperatures? My CEL has been coming on the past few rides when sitting in traffic and the fan is not always coming on. Is it possible that updating the firmware and getting the ride side air scoop might help? |

Yes, any dealer can upgrade your firmware to the latest. Just be sure you want this. The fan comes on when you roll on the throttle and runs until you come to a stop. a few friends with stock mufflers got anoid by the fan running and louder in the neighborhood than the muffler. I think it was the idea of getting the motor cooled down before the rear head reached critical temps. |

If your CEL is coming on, something is wrong, but if I had to take a stab your fan is failing and needs replacement, or has a bad connection. Changing firmware settings and adding scoops won't fix the issue, at best it would be a bandage. |

BTW, I think that righthand side air scoop made a significant difference in engine temps running around here in the desert. |
