Bought my 2nd Buell today and had some issues with it on the drive home. First off, we had to jump the battery to get it started. Started the drive home and after about 15 minutes , Engine light came on, then Speedometer died, then tachometer died, then engine cuts out. Well, I had 3 hours of driving so I went and got a brand new battery. Drove about 70 miles on the new battery, Engine light came on, then Speedometer died, then tachometer died, then engine cuts out (About 30 seconds between each of these events).

To make a long story short, we had to stop and juice the battery for 15 minutes w/ jumper cables approx every 30 miles.

Previous owner installed a new voltage regulator 2 days ago as he thought that was the issue. Anyone have ideas what else may be causing this? Thank you.

Well, I went through the Stator check steps in the Service Manual. If I did it right, it appears my stator is grounded. Ohmmeter indicates approx .030 ohms across one of the stator sockets. The other socket reads nothing.

Since it looks like my stator is bad, can anyone give me insight on the ease of replacing this? I'm a bit hesitant to do this on my own since it requires removal of the clutch assembly. Ideas on approx cost for dealer to replace?

Thanks!

WOW that looks ugly. At least you know what went wrong and good job of troubleshooting and wrenching. Better than one of those problems that come and go where you never know when it might leave you stranded or pop up in stop and go traffic.

I can't take credit for the wrenching, was able to find a local Bueller with more skills than myself. For others future reference, I had a 4 bolt design rotor assembly, most likely why it failed:

He also create this Youtube video, good reference in case anyone else has this issue:
