I'm also a new Bueller (Buellee?) Just bought an '05 XB12Scg, and of course wanted to do an oil change. Bought a filter at the local Harley shop (HD63731-99A) and a spare on line (KN 171B). When I tried to change oil I discovered both were too big! Both in width and height. The old filter is 2 1/2 inches wide and 3 inches tall. Anybody got a good part number/source? Is there something wierd about my bike? |

That part number is the wrong filter, my guess off hand is that it belongs to a Sportster or an old tube framed Buell. The part number you want is 63806-00Y |

The most important factors are the filtering material and filtration area, which will vary with each brand. http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/refere nce.html |

Also some of the filters listed above are car oil filters, not designed for motorcycles. The XB uses a low pressure oiling system and if you put a car filter on there, the filter might be bypassed. |
