I need to repair a plug on my '05 XBR wiring harness.The parts manual does not list the part number for the spades (female) i need to replace. It's my fuel pump plug side of the harness. An AMP connector i 'd wish to service myself.My local dealer cannot source the spades.They CAN however source the special crimping pliers for.....$300!!!! THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS for crimping pliers! I can survive the exhorbitant price if'n i could source new SPADES in order to complete the repair.I'd even delight in being able to repair the connectors properly on my bike. A source for AMP and DEUTCH connectors and crimping pliers PLEASE? | ||

Ducxl, unless you particularly want to have the crimpers for other work it would be more cost effective to replace the loom in the pump. This is available for the '06's (I assume this would fit the earlier ones) as spare part P0194.3A8. It was expensive for a small wire loom as I recall but way less than the price of the crimpers. | ||

WHOA! i think i've found a supplier/superstore for all things motorcycle electrical! Cool AMP kits found here at NAMZ custom cycle products.It looks like the going rate for crimpers is $350-$400. Here's a pic of the spades i've been trying to source  Yes i could replace the pump harness(#30,page70 p/n P0194.3A8 @$ 75.) but it appears the installation to the pump would require dismantling the plug anyway in order to snake the wire through the pump base.Looks like a rubber barb that has a wicked tight press fit.   | ||

I didn't get the kits, just the small quantity and individual parts from them, plus the economy crimpers waytek are cheap. You just have to be extra careful shaping the connection. | ||

You can get Packard/Delphi economic crimping tool for less than $30 at Amazon. Or something like Wiha Porta Crimp for $70 for frame & $50 for the die (43151) - these are high quality Swiss made tools. These tool are not made exactly for AMP connectors, but you should be able to make decent crimps with them. Check with www.Newark.com for Tyco/Amp connectors. You can look up the part number of the terminal from Tyco/Amp online catalog | ||

Oh yeah.....THe Service manual at page B-14 calls the fuel pump plug [86] a 4-place "Multilock" connector yet,with the stamp moulded on the plug "SPED" the suppliers listed here all state the plug is a PACKARD connector!!! WTF!!! The "PED" in SPED stands for Packard Electrical Division!!! A total and complete Cluster****.Terrible disappointment | ||

Deutsch DTM 4 position (HD-74104-98bk) plugs (bought 3 complete plugs) on the way USPS express.I'm converting it to Deutsch from whatever the EFF it is. Also....YEP  a NEW set of DEUTSCH crimping pliers $279 on the way as well.My dealer graciously offered to accept the ones (AMP) above but i'm keeping them...DAMNIT! I have plenty of the AMP Multilock (Packard? WTF?) male spades i can still use.The main wiring harness contains the male ends i have anyway.It's the female ends i'll still have issue with. Damn the torpedos'! Full steam ahead!!!! | ||

Deutsch connectors are all available with solder only pins, (no crimping tool), and they come out stronger and better than the crimp ones, (as long as you have some soldering skill), they are used by a lot of companies for critical (must not fail ) applications, and imo are the way to go., you can find them on the net, they aren't cheap, my specialty is wiring, and for my own stuff, I do not use crimps on anything I do. Deutsch has the best solution for this. | ||

Well i can now crimp most any connector on my bikes'  The Amp crimper(orange) worked well crimping the PACKARD terminals.  A little practice   Plenty of female terminals once i found a source.  I also bought 3 pair of 4 place Deutsch connectors in case i want to convert in the future. A soldered terminal seems better.Especially when the gage of wire strains the limits of terminal size. | ||

DIYAutoTune.com and Ballenger Motorsports sell pigtails so you don't have to crimp the stuff together if you don't want. BTW, crimping tools are expensive for a reason... the wiring harness is the nervous system of a vehicle and we all know what happens when it fails. The mil spec ones we use at work are very $$$$. |
