Just bought an 07 Firebolt from a dealer, it's been running great until tonight! I rode to work today, and when I went to ride home tonight I turned the key and it did the needle sweep, I heard the fuel pump prime, and when I hit the start button, it clicked, the gauges shut down and the light turned off. Turned the key off, turned it back on, no needle sweep, no headlight on, nothing. Fliped the kill switch, needle sweep and gauges. Flipped the switch to run and again the gauges went off, headlight went out, etc when I hit the start button. I am absolutely hoping this just sounds like a dead battery? Any thoughts or suggestions about where to start? |

I'd start at the battery. Put a DC voltmeter on the battery posts and verify at least 12 VDC is present with the key off. While you're looking at the battery posts, check that the big battery cables are screwed down tight. - If they are, then remove each screw starting with the negative cable first and clean the mating surfaces of the lug and post until they are shiny. - Leave it loose for now. - Do the same cleanup job with the positive cable. - Then reinstall each cable with the positive first then the negative. Try starting the bike. If all this doesn't help, look for the main 30A fuse and verify it has continuity. If that is OK, try swapping the 3 relays around in the Relay Center and see if symptoms change. |

Did your tripometer and clock reset to 0? If yes, then dead battery. |

Yes, it did reset. I pulled the seat and the positive lead was barely hanging on, I need to get a longer screw and new crush washer to keep it from vibrating back out. I did find a badass set of torx bit swivel heads from Motion Pro, I'll be keeping these in my pack so I can get to the battery next time http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0421 / Thanks for the advise. I do have another question. This bike is an 07 I bought it earlier this month with just 2100 miles on it. I had the dealer fax me all the inhouse Repair Orders today. They had to replace both fuel injectors, do those commonly malfunction on Buell's??? It seems that an 07 with such low miles should not be having injector problems. Or could it be that the injectors were gummed up from sitting? |
