So, I finally got the time to try and fix my leaky rear rocker box. Got the Cometic gaskets through American Sport Bike, Thanks Al !!! Followed manual to the 'T'. And replaced both sets while i had it apart. The rear buttoned up perfectly. But after an hour or so the front rocker box started leaking from the corner of the rocker cover just above the exhaust. Tore it back down and cleaned everything real good again. Applied a light bead of GM Super Grey Gasket sealer to both surfaces. Lasted about 50 miles and she started seeping again. After cleaning, it looks like the corner of the cover has lifted off of the box, just enough to allow the oil the pools up right there by the port to start seeping out. If it were anywhere else, I wouldn't even worry about it, but it drips perfectly on the exhaust. My questions are: 1) Is it possible to have the cover resurfaced if it is warped. 2) What about the rocker box, how do you check for warpage with the gasket channel cut through it. 3) All this seemed to start after my first oil change, and I put Lucas Synthetic in. Should I go back to the regular stuff? |

So, I finally tore the 'bolt back down this morning and popped my front rocker cover off. Sure enough the cometic gasket I had, sucked off the front corner by the oil port. When I initially installed it, I noticed it was just a tad too long in that area. I applied some gasket tack and let it set with gasket. Thought it would hold, guess not. This seems to be an issue with their rubber gaskets. Guess I will have to go back to the OEM (spit) ones I will try holding it with Hylomar for now, and order new ones for next weekends project. |
