Hey guys, I'm new to the forum but have been on a buell for a few years now. Last year i bough a 2004 xb12s with about 9000 miles on it. As far as performance mods the bike has a drummer exhaust, K&N filter, and the guy i bought it from told me he put the race ecm in it (I havent checked to see if it is to be hoenst). The problem im having is them bike coughs when twisting the throttle from an idle. It doesnt do it all the time, but it does it enough that i know something is wrong (probably about 10 times during a ride).

I checked the idle and set it to the rpm specified in the manual.

I have already checked the intake gaskets and they dont seem to be leaking at all.

I am sort of at a loss of what to do next. My best guess would be that the ecm is not mapped correctly? If i do have the race ecm does that mean that i can send it to erik buell racking and have them put a map on it for me?

Any other suggestions?!

Thanks so much!

-Van

That's affirmative to sending the ECM to E B R for mapping; just make sure you tell them all the particulars about mods it's running.

However, before doing that I'd make sure, double sure and triple sure that the TPS is reset (zeroed software-wise) correctly. The TPS is responsible for telling the ECM how far and how fast the throttle is opening. Any deviation from 100% perfect can only lead to problems (like you may be having).

Your problem may be that your opening the throttle too much too fast. Between the large throttle body, heavy flywheel, and long stroke, it takes some time for the engine to catchup to your input and can momentairly bog down. Don't blip the throttle, the bike is fuel injected, it isn't going to stall like an old piece of junk harley while sitting idle. Plus, you are more likely to foul the spark plugs when you do that.
