OK, I am confused. Reading owner's manual for 05 Firebolt, it says to use Loctite 565 and 272 for engine/primary drain bolts and chin spoiler fasteners. Inquiring at NAPA provided info that these two are motorcycle only Loctite products. Nobody, including the local Harley dealer has heard of this. Where to purchase? Or, is there another Loctite product that is essentially the same? Medium strength red and blue? |

272 is one of the red loctite products. Walmart has it... http://www.walmart.com/ip/Loctite-272-Threadlocker -High-Temp-High-Strength/13212421 Walmart has the 565 sealant too. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Loctite-565-PST-Thread-S ealant-Controlled-Strength/13212579 Google is your friend. |

Blake, Thank you for quick response. I will check local WalMart to see if they have in store. As much as I dislike WalMart, they do seem to have everything. Who woulda thought! I did research a little on what these Loctite products are, but the problem seems to be where to buy locally. The prices are way scary also. Thanks! |

Looks like that is an online only product for Walmart. You can probably find it all over the place online, or try your local industrial supply store. |

OK, Update......Today, I went to another Harley dealer and gave them the HD part numbers for the two Loctite products. Unbelievable, they had one of each in stock. Prices were good. |

I know the manual specifies it, but I never use Loctite 272 on my bike as it requires heat to remove. I use the Threadlocker 242 on many of the fasteners. Permatex Threadlocker Blue is very similar to Loctite 242 and is available at most hardware stores. Permatex makes the Red version also. The thread sealer is really no different than the pipe "dope" that you can find at just about any hardware store. Interesting. So, what do you mean by "Loctite 272 needs heat to remove"? The manual specs this 272 to be used on small T-27 fasteners holding on a plastic chin spoiler. I don't know how heat can be used. Does the Loctite make it unusually difficult to remove fasteners? Breakage? |
