Looking for input...99 X1, tail light and brake light worked and passed inspection in the fall. Removed while making some changes, now when hooked up I have either solid brake light lit or no light, but will light up for brake when lever is squeezed. This is with middle prong hooked to ground wire, and also tried it with a piece of wire run from it to frame, and flip flopping the red and orange wires gives me either of the 2 lighting scenarios. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Try hooking it up so that you have a solid light on, then switch the position of the bulb. Then try it set up the other way and switch the bulb position. Come to think of it, check that both of the filaments in the bulb are okay. I had a similar problem once back when I overdid a wheelie and broke my rear lens. Always check the simple stuff first, of course. What you know right now: 1. Brake switches work (otherwise pressing brake would do nothing) 2. Electricity IS making it to the light Think about this. If you can get it to run at all times, then you know the Running Light circuit is operating. If you can get the light to operate when the brake lever is pressed, then the Brake Light circuit is working. So then, if you switch the wires, why do you only have one working at a time? My guess would be a broken filament in the bulb. |

Thanks Desertfox, I'll try the bulb position. I bought a new bulb today before posting this thinking the filament was bad. |

Resolved. Turns out there is a problem with a connection in the assembly itself, picked up another one from a buddy's stash o spare Buell parts, and it's working fine. |
