Hi there!
I have a 2007? Blast which was previously running fine and today when I went out to warm it up, it randomly stalled after 2mins or so. I thought not enough fuel, so I topped that off, took off down the road about a mile I lost all power, wouldn't start back up...
Fast forward pushing it half a mile down the road, I try starting it again, good! So I drive for a few seconds, and lose power. This happens several times on the push/ride home. I curse it and start cruising the forums, go back out start it up and... It's fine, it runs, but it sounds really rough. Almost sputtering, backfired once...
What should I do? I'm barely a backyard mechanic at best, so please help! |

Starting fluid will tell you if its a fuel flow or a sparking issue. Squirt some in the air cleaner and see if the motor pops when turned over. If not, its a sparking issue. If your coil has a good power connection (Voltmeter to the gray wire), your failure to spark issue is caused by something in the grounding portion of the circuit. The module is a possibility, but I have found that cam position sensors fail more often (and are cheaper). The only way to test is to replace it. Remove the spark plug and leave it hanging on its wire, with grounding contact to the engine. Turn the bike on and roll in high gear until the engine has revolved once. Did the spark plug fire once, a nice blue fat spark? Or did it give several weak yellow ones? Once is good, anything else is bad. Remember to set the timing after changing the CPS. |
