I was doing my 5K maintenance the other day and had the airbox cover off. I wanted to pull the baseplate off and make sure the center tie rod fasteners were tight and generally just look around. I have the service manual but I was a bit unclear about a couple of things and didn't want to screw something up. Book says to remove the breather hoses - easy enough. Next says to remove the IAT sensor from the bottom grommet. Now... does that mean pull the sensor out through the grommet, or unplug the sensor connector on the bottom side of the plate? (At least it looked like the connector was right underneath). It also mentioned "carefully disengaging baseplate from velocity stack sealing ring on velocity stack." The diagram on the baseplate removal page shows an arrow pointing in the general direction of the bottom of the velocity stack, but no real detail on the sealing ring. When you look at the throttle body diagram, there is no mention of a sealing ring - I'm assuming they are referring to the spring clamp that appears to clamp the velocity stack to the throttle body? In that case, just lift the plate up enough to release the spring clamp? Again, simple stuff probably, but since I really didn't have to pull the plate, I wanted to make sure I didn't screw myself by tweaking something. Thanks in advance. |

I usually push the AIT sensor out of the grommet. Once the sensor is free you should be able to pull the base plate and the velocity stack will stay on the bike attached to the throttle body. The sealing ring is just a groove in the velocity stack the the base plate fits in. In the picture the retaining ring is in the wrong place it should fit at the very bottom of the stack once it is pushed down onto the throttle body.

Thanks! To be clear (I used to be a Marine... bear with me) you simply push the sensor down through the grommet and out the bottom? As you can tell, I thought the velocity stack was coming out with the baseplate. Now that you say it stays, the diagram in the baseplate removal section makes more sense. |

Yea push it out the bottom, it will take a little force. |
