Last month I cooked the main shaft on my 2003 XB9. I have decided to just change out for a low mileage 2006 XB 12 unit I bought with the complete harness. I really do not want to remove the harness and swap them so the question is this. Can I just use the XB9 ecm with the complete XB 12 engine, and remap for the airflow of the K&N filter, larger engine and change he duty/ pulse rates of the injectors?? I am being lazy I know, but it I can get around the harness swap with electronics, I am OK with that. Your thoughts and knowledge are appreciated.

Doubt it. At a minimum, your redline will be too high for a 12... I am sure there are other issues.

You can change the redline or skip spark RPM settings with ECMSPy.

Terry,
That was my line of thinking on the xb9 ECM versus the XB12 ecm. I am not worried about the redline, and as was said, can be adjusted with ecm spy and or the new ignition. The heads are coming off the 1203 today and are heading out for porting, springs, roller rockers and new cams. So the factory redline of the 1203 will closer to that of he stock XB9 when it is back together in a few weeks.

If it were up to me, I'd rather spend a long weekend or two running the new wiring harness than spending months hunting down every possible unknown. Especially given that a few of the unknowns may have a blown motor as their first symptom. But it's a judgement call...

It took me a couple of months of trying just to get my ported KDX-200 (now a 225) jetted well, and that has an old school carb and only 4 or 5 variables that I have to converge (slow jet, main jet, air fuel mix screw, idle screw, needle clip position). The results are very satisfying, but it was a lot of work to try and work out without a dyno and exhaust gas analyzer.

Maybe the ECM's are very similar though... and it won't be that bad. So if you do it, please post the process and results so we know for future generations!
