Money is a big issue with me, single income family with a newborn. A friend has a 200 series back tire, and he is willing to make a deal. I am down to the wear bars on my Scorpion Syncs. Will a 200 mm wide tire fit on a CityX? |

Depends what you mean by "fit". You'd have to take a look at your bike and see if you can fit an extra 1/2" or so on each side without contacting swingarm or anything else. Can you get it on the rim? I don't know. But from a quick look on Google, it appears that the recommended rim width for 200mm is generally 6"-6.25". If you really want to know, call the manufacturer for your buddy's tire and ask. It's possible the acceptable range could be a little less, but I'm not sure anyone will recommend squeezing a 200mm on a 5.5" rim. That's not saying it won't physically fit, but doing that will change the tire profile as well as raise the height of your rear end (tire mounted on a smaller rim is going to increase the diameter because you are squeezing the sides in). That's why all the manufacturers list a recommended width (and usually a min and max) for each particular model; they want the tire on a rim that keeps the shape they designed around. |
