Here is a video of what I am experiencing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot88m7o_gWs I have had problems all summer with the bike. I have taken it in to the Harley dealership 4 times with each time having been told the problem is fixed. They have swapped out wires and reset TPS. The bike rides well for about 30-40 minutes and then at about 3k-4k rpm the bike "coughs" rpms go really low and then the bike dies. It wont turn back on but do what you see in the video. After a couple of hours, I got back and the engine light turns off and the bike turns back on. I would assume its an overheating issue but the fan does turn on and dont know how to check that or really what to do. As you can tell, I am really really new to motorcycles and bought the bike in order not to have "issues." The bike is a 2008 with 3,400 miles on it. Unfortunately it's out of warranty. I am thinking it might be the fuel pump? Or from what I have read check the fuel pump fuse? Does anyone know what fuse that is? Thanks for any help. |

Well it is different than what I was thinking. I don't know I haven't experienced that. I am sure someone here should know what is happening since the very helpful video shows bike is putting out codes. Do you have a service manual? What did the techs tell you? |

Well I checked the ground cable as someone told me it might be loose, took the bike out on a cooler day as someone said it might have been overheating, and the rpm issue happened again. I took it to the Harley Shop immediately and while there had the tech guy come out to check it out. As he came out I revved up the engine and at about 3,500 rmp the bike backfired so loud people came outside to see what happened. The tech started the bike up again and it would not do it again. They said they were going to have the tech's drive it home all week and hopefully it does it for them again. Keeping my fingers crossed. |

HD techs have magic hands, so that, for as long as they ride your bike, the problem is fixed, and they will not be able to reproduce the problem. This is a known fact. |

You have spark generation issues. The backfire may indicate an unwanted signal from the cam position sensor to the module to fire a plug while its exhaust valve was open and unburned fuel was in the muffler. Refusal to spark, unwanted spark, and refusal to spark often enough can all be caused by the signal generator in your cam position sensor. They could also be caused by your module, but it is not mounted in such a hot shaky place. |

when the bike is running does it seem like it is running out of gas? If it does, the coils are probably bad. I do a lot of work on Harleys and this happens from time to time. |

Marco, My 09 Uly did a similar thing while I was on a trip 500 miles from home in Arkansas. However mine never did quit completly, when it got warm to hot it would surge like turning the throttle to full off then it would come alive a second or two later then 2 seconds later off again. I rode it that way for 200 hundred miles in the Arkansas hills and the 500 miles home to Nebraska. When I took it to the dealer they could not find anything wrong so I got on it & rode it around a neighnothood close to the dealer until it got very warm and again started to surge. The mech got on the bike and promptly did a unexpected wheely, took it back into the shop and hooked up a fuel pressure gauge and confirmed the fuel pressure dropping to zero then back up in 2 to 3 second intervals. Replaced fuel pump problen solved. |
