Hey guys... I've got an '00 X1 Millennium Edition X1, Buell Race Ecu, k&n filter in gutted airbox, and vance &hines pipe. The problem is its been a little hard to start when cold for a while now, and recently I feel like I got some bad gas in it and it made in run like crap..I was going down a major highway and the motor cut out like it was running on 1 cylinder and made some rather unfriendly sounds. I put some 100 octane gas in hoping to offset the crap gas, but it still did it. So, I decided to change the plugs, took out some old looking original h/d 6** plugs and put in some new NGK dcpr8e gapped to approx. .38 according to my service manual. Well I go to crank it and its even harder to crank but once it finally sticks, I let it warm up for like 20 minutes to get the fresh oil flowing and let myself clean up the mess of changing the oil. I ride away and so far so good, but I don't even get a 1/8th of a mile down the street and its cutting out bad under load, missing, making all kinds of popping sounds...I bring it to idle but its still running rough and it switches from running ok to crappy like that for the next 10 minutes until I finally give up and pull it in the garage. I've got my ecm spy cable on the way, and the program is loaded on my laptop so i can dive on in once it arrives. thru all this i've seen the engine light come on once, and then no more. Any suggestions guys, this really has me bummed. The bike has been perfect since I got it 3 months ago other than the shift detent plate coming loose in the trans. Thanks in advance Gray |

Confirm that all grounds are clean and tight. If they are, make sure you have 13.5V or better across the battery terminals at 2k RPM. Bad/weak grounds and low battery voltage can cause lots of problems. If all is good, try a new Engine Temp Sensor. They can go out of whack without throwing a code, and cause really poor running. |

Akbuell, thanks for the info, I'll pick up a dmm soon and do all those checks. Update.... I took the new plugs out last night and they were completely black, so I cleaned them off with a wire brush and re-gapped them to .35 and reinstalled them. I cranked the bike, still difficult to get it to run cold, but once it held it was good. I took it around the block to listen for noises, so far so good. Head out on the open road and ride for a few miles, bike is running at about 90-95% now, but still a hint of stumble/miss/surge/pop, I turn around to head home and decide on a full throttle pull and as soon as I rolled the throttle back I heard it, the sound of the intake and engine completely changed and bam..back to running like crap, exactly the way it was before(which btw a full throttle pull thru all the gears is what started this whole mess). Oh well, at least I know part of the issue..lol. My ecm spy cable will be here today and when I get some time i'll hook 'er up and see whats going on. I'm hoping a tps re-zero is what might be needed. Anyway I'll keep you guys posted, i'm not so bummed now since I did manage to get it running better.. Gray |

Check your intake manifold seals. |
