I'm new to Buells (just bought a '01 M2 last week). I'm interested in the Boss muffler. Can anyone provide me some contact info to purchase one? Also, has anyone had any problems with the redesigned shifter for '01. I've ridden other Buells and think this new design is alot harder to shift. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. |

Does anyone have any experience with re-packing a supertrapp pipe? How easy/hard? |

Super easy! First, get the right packing. Unbolt and gut the muffler. Take off the old wrap and wrap on the new, (tightly). Be sure to use bailing wire to hold the packing on. Put the thing back together. All done! |

One idea that I have had to improve the longevity of the packing is to roll out the sheet of packing, cut a same size piece of AL or SS window screen and lay it on top, and roll the muffler core up in the sandwich of materals. Make sure that the screen is covered by packing on the outside so it will not rub the muffler can. This assumes the packing material can be unrolled into a flat sheet. Think it would help to prevent the packing from blowing out??? Carl |

Roadhawgs congrats on the new ride and welcome to the family. As far as the boss pipe contact dave in parts at daytona h-d the number is 954-253-2453 the price is about $325 they make two models a 2 1/2" and a 3" . the 3" is race and pretty loud the shift linkage is designed to give you more feel and by the time you have the bike broke in you wont even notice it. I ordered my boss this week and will be installing it this weekend on my X1 . I let you know how it goes. ps there are some good articles on installation in the archives but you have to dig !!! hope this helps sanity |

Roadhawgs- Congrats on the new ride. I just installed the Boss pipe on my 00 M2. Put about 100 miles on it and it seems great. It sounds awesome. Rek at Daytona HD is the man to talk to, I think he is the one who designed the pipe. I just installed the 01 shifter, it may seem a bit stiff but the old shifter had to much play in the linkage. The shifts felt sloppy and to far away from each other. It sure doesnt feel like spring |

pipes under seat: check out www.streetwise.cc for another approach. I believe you will also need their oil tank, not sure about the battery. I don't know the price, and I don't think he's shipping any yet. |

Sanity, Check the Exhaust-Headers,Muffler Archive dated "Thru March 7, 2001". Take the time to read all the messages in that archive relating to installation of the Boss. You will find the procedure that worked for me among the messages. Be patient as you work and good luck. |

Anyone using the Wileyco muffler, I'd like some feedback. I've ruled out the Boss because you can't repack it. Not a big fan of V&H. Anyone with opinions (good or bad) on any mufflers would be appreciated. I'm going to use this muffler on a '01 M2. Thanks |

I'm interested in the Wileyco as well. So you guys with them, speak up! I think you have a bigger audiance than you realize :-) Anybody hear anything about when the new race kit muffler will be available? I'd rather go complete race kit, if it's going to be out soon. TIA |

I have a Wileyco on my M2. I like it. I have heard the V&H, Force, Buell Race, and a Race header with a straight pipe. The Wileyco is a little louder than a V&H and it has a deeper sound. The fit and finish are excellent and the rear bracket has 2 hangers that wrap around the pipe. The torque dip that goes along with the stock pipe are gone now. The bike pulls much harder, especially from around 3000 rpm. I highly recommend this muffler. |

I've got the WileyCo on my '00 M2. Less than 1,000 miles on it so far, but so far so good. |

Where did you purchase the Wileyco? I got on their web page but there is nothing about dealers or purchasing. I do like the looks of the owner though (what a suprise)! Also, did you notice the guy's hand holding the muffler prop behind the group photo? Can you give me an idea of the price of the Wileyco? How was installation? Do you have the SS, Carbon, or titanium model? Thanks |

Roadhawg and Christopher, Go to the main page here and click on the "Search the BBS" button. I just did a search on WileyCo and got a bunch of hits. I bought my muffler from my local dealer. I heard that WileyCo has somewhat caught up with their production shipping. Here's the link to when I first installed it and posted some fuzzy photos of the before and after with it on my bike. Troop posted a price of around $235 mail order here. Hope this helps. I should have enough miles on mine by mid to late May to give a better feel for how the exhaust is holding up. I'd like to get my bike dyno-tuned before summer hits as well, and if I do I will try to get a printout of the results I can post. I'm looking for a broad full hard and smooth torque curve, and let the HP fall where it may. Torque is GOOD. |

I just finished putting on my IDS this morning with the help of a friend. Don't have enough miles on it yet to comment but I'll bet you a dime to a doughnut you have their old style clamps. The ones that broke. When I got my pipe I checked the clamps in the box before I bought it. One of the boxes had the "old" type clamps which were thin. We opened up the second box and found the "new" clamps (really thick and heavy duty) in that box. (the one I bought) This is why I needed an extra set of hands just to squeeze the clamps together in order to get the bolts thru. Did I mention the clamps were really heavy duty? |

This is not a good feeling. BTW you might want to do a little modifing on the end cap. Here is what I've done to mine: At the rear where the end is rolled inward - for athetics - I cut it off. I believe that might of been a catch spot for exiting exhaust. Also, on the inside of the end cap there is a funnel type cone that looks to help the exhaust exit. I cut that down flush with the main body of the end cap. Reason? With the closed end cap on the discs, (for 99% street use), the exiting exhaust has to work harder to go around that funnel - cut it off and the exhaust will exit faster and with less restriction. Sounds better too. |

Roadhawgs, while I may be mistaken on this, I don't believe the BOSS pipe uses packing or ever needs repacking. Besides, it has a lifetime guarantee, so if it begins getting too loud, you can have it replaced. |

Would the mounting problems that I've heard about associated with the Boss be a problem on my 2001 M2? |

white bros e-series 2-1/2" collector [97 S] update: good fit, bullet proof rear mount but requires a slight modification to work with race pipe [extend inlet 1". The can was built to fit stock 2-1/2" X header] looks good, I should be able to adjust the primary and change oil without dropping the can. sounds awesome with the provided 12 discs [1.66 inch dia. effective opening] and a closed endcap. they also have an optional cheater end cap that will allow you to uncork it at the track with only a turn of an allen wrench. if you use the maximum [28] discs you end up with a 2.54" dia. opening, essentially a straight pipe. its going to be fun figuring this one out! any insight is appreciated. I will post pics and dyno results shortly. |

Buellzebub: Is this the pipe with the massive CNC Al rear mount that is also available in CF? Which model do you have? Did you just toss the elbow? How did you extend the inlet? That sounds like a dificult proposition that might end up looking pretty ugly. Jose |

OK, time to stir up another hornet's nest (see my post in paint & bodywork). If anyone out there has an S1 with a Vance&Hines exhaust, can you look at the front elbow (the one that is spring-connected to the can) and tell me what is stamped on it? There should be two stampings, one on the elbow itself, and one on the mounting tab that is welded to the elbow. I know you will probably have to twist yourself into a pretzel-like object to get these numbers, but I REALLY need them, and would surely apprecitate it. Thanks, Mike |

I just got done talking to Rek at Daytona HD about the Boss muffler. Here is a summary of what we talked about: The body of the muffler is polished SS. The Boss does have packing, but it's ceramic not fiberglass. He said the ceramic packing does not burn like 'glass does. The Boss comes with a lifetime warranty. If you ever need the Boss replaced, he will either send you a new muffler or return your money, your choice. He also said to get their new 2001 mount for ease of installation. I think he has changed my mind to the Boss over the Wileyco for my new M2. Has anyone here ever compared the sound of the Boss to the Wileyco? |

Jose: same one with alum. can model # 05-261, i hacked the expanded portion off the supplied elbow and added it to the inlet of the can [approx 1"] i had it all fit up real nice, but then i took the can to get welded. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ASK IF THEY WELD STAINLESS [MY MISTAKE was taking it to a muffler shop rather than a welding shop [really ugly welds]] nice small stainless steel tig welds would have been much better. you may have to do a little file work to get rid of the extra weld slag inside after you get it back. anyways the modification is simple if you know a competent welder. and even with the cheezy weld it doesn't look too bad and sounds great. i am going to check with white bros about a longer inlet end [they're just riveted on]. |

heres the White Bro's E-series on a 97 S1 with race header /image{mvc-002f} Jmartz, i hacked off the bad welded inlet and fabricated a 2.5" i.d./o.d. connector out of the straight section of the suppled elbow and clamped it together, this was a much better solution as it allows for movement in all planes.
