Bud, The Helicops bike was modified in germany for the german tv show Helicops. It was then sold as a special on the German Buell web page. There was 1 or 2 other special modified bikes also. |

Henrik - did you ever finish tweaking the brakes on your S2? Final result? Anyone know if S2 front brake pads will fit my 91 RS? |

Recomendations for tires for the RS? I'm thinking about Metzeler Z4s like the S3. |

Josh, I will get you a definate answer to your RS brake question tonight but I am almost positive they are the same exact calipers on my S2 and my RSS |

Thanks, I'm just getting a little concerned about riding with the guys on the RS now that the S3 is sold. 77HP/73ft lbs + poor brakes + 13year old tires = too much excitement

BTW, why are you selling all your bikes?? |

And why are you riding on 13 year old tires? Them things have to be rock hard and ice slick by now regardless of how much thread is left on them. |

I want a new sport tourer. Seems Buell doesn't make 'em anymore. I'm replacing the S3 but need to sell the S1 to keep from getting another loan. 125RWHP, 520lbs*, 50MPG*, easily removable side and top bags, power windshield, shaft drive, gas gauge. It's like a magic carpet. I'm keeping the RS and Blast - tho the Blast might become a XB9Slow next year. Mikej: I intended to do lots of things to the RS when I bought it, but it just ran so nice all I did was oil and brake fluid. Yeah, the tires are rock hard and pretty slippery. I've only put 2000 miles on it since I bought it. Needs the carb rebuilt and the throttle and choke cables lubed, I'm ordering a new chain tomorrow... Anyone know about the isolators? Anything else I should replace while I'm in there (8400 miles, 13years) *Yamaha claims 520 but it's about 620 with gas ready to go. Yamaha also claims 50MPG but that is very lean. With a PCIII it will run better and cooler but get ~40MPG |

Very nice. Yamaha, eh? The tires on my S2 are thin and hard, but I just run the M2 when I'm not lazy. |

Stock windshield on the S3 is aerodynamic with little protection. The Rifle (4"+ higher) has protection but no aerodynamics. Now add a switch where you can go back and forth between the 2 with infinite adjustments in between on the fly. Way cool. |

No final word on the brakes yet. I tried an S1 caliper with the stock master. Probably a bit of an improvement, but not much. Next step was to try a 1/2" master like the newer tubers, but then the whole handlebar diameter thing put thing to a stop. I did however get my grubby little hands on one of the real "unobtainium" Buell dual disk brake kits for the S2. I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) that all of 15 were ever made. It includes the left side caliper and rotor, a 3/4" master (for 1" bars) and a brake line. Haven't installed it yet. Ideally I'd like to try the dual front calipers with a 5/8" master and SS rotors, but that requires cintered or HH pads. Cap says all the PM calipers use the same pads, so it should be possible to find some. We'll see. As for the tires, I'd check out the new Metzler tires that they just announced as a replacement for the MeZ4 tires. Same low wear and more traction, especially in the wet - according to the press hype. Henrik |

FMJ; my set is the factory kit. I believe yours is different from the PM - right? About the # made and sold - don't really know, except that Tat and I once had a talk about it, and he mentioned a seemingly silly low # - I do believe he said 15. But I don't know from any inside source ... hint hint. Haven't installed the kit yet. It's got the original stock style rotor and I already installed one of the newer style rotors on the right ... I could of course mount one of those in reverse on the left, but I'm not sure that it's designed to be stressed in that direction - and it would look silly Henrik |

The number made was very low. A dozen would not surprise me. Erik did not think they had any use on the street. We ran a small batch of castings and PM made up a few calipers. The MC was off the shelf as was the banjo bolt. The idea was to supply a few for racing and the cost of these small runs was so high that the kit was priced at a ridiculous level. We discouraged people who wanted to buy them in every way possible. Now of course they are becoming sought after collector items. All this info comes from my very spotty memory but perhaps it will cause those with more info to jump in. |

Henrik, mine is the Buell kit,has the bigger stock M/C,stock L/S rotor, brake lines, etc,Pegasus logo on caliper.I also picked up another brand new M/C awhile back from Brankin Brehmer when he was cleaning out his garage full of S-2 parts.I have that one on now with the ISR dual set-up I got from Cap. |

A dozen, me thinks, even may have been optimistic. If, *IF*, I recall there were other considerations. If you have one please hold on to it and care for it. I have, somewhere in these 12 cases of "ensconsced, yet not filed" history, the original bill of material.....it's right there with the 8-1/2" x 11" sketch of what would later become the S1 frame. It's not a bike....it's an object of passion. "Mere talent alone was not near enough to have carried out Erik Buell's vision." - from "Buell - The Mobile Dream" Court |

These is if I find it. I had all, make that most, of the Buell engineering staff autograph it so it's litter with signatures of about a dozen folks as passionate about us. The most memorable part of the thing was not that they were so taken with their technical prowess as they were, as a group, filled with pride in what they had accomplished. If you will remind me some day, I'll tell you why the Buell lacked the straight struts (like the Ducati Monster) in it's frame. In fact, run outside, look at your bike and admire the way the SINGLE piece of reinforcing strut commences, winds around the front of the bike and terminates on the other side. There's much more to Erik Buell's genius than meets the cursory glance. Things have a reason, looking good (with the exception of the rotor being on the right hand side of the front wheel hub which was Erik's personal tribute to vanity - he will deny this, I know better) mean little and pale in comparison to function. Look closely at your Buell...there are more hidden peices of gifted thinking than you might see at first. Court |

Court, Just last night I spent quality milk crate time with my S2 while doing an XB rocker box conversion. I will do more today as I change brake fluid and rear pads. Even when I can't ride I enjoy these bikes. Brad |

Here's my figures which have been posted here many times with no corrections by anyone: Buell Show Bike -1- Lucifer's Hammer Race Bike -1- 1987 RR1000 -50- 1988 RR1200 -9- 1989 RR1200 -34- .............RS1200 -7- 1990 RR1200 -16- .............RS1200 -95- 1991 RS1200 -67- .............RSS1200 -40- .............Kits -15- 1992 RS1200 -30- .............RSS1200 -68- 1993 RS1200 -3- .............RSS1200 -6- .............RR1200 SP -1- My 91 RS has VIN 075. I don't know anything else and don't recall who originally posted the #s. How do you know your motor is a '92? Wait, "My RSS was assembled starting october 21, 1991" that makes it a 92 model RSS. The 91s shoudl have wrapped up production much earlier in the year? I've got my build sheet a home, I'll try to remember to look at my build date. edited by josh_ on May 06, 2004 |
