My 97 S3T starts normal, idles normal, RPMS rev up normal but the RPMS drop to Zero once the bike is put into first gear and you release the clutch. Gears move through full range with no problems or binding} |

sounds like the clutch switch isn't working.Unplug the wires from clutch switch and put a jumper wire between them.If that fixes it, strip the switch and clean the contacts. They accumulate quite a bit of dirt in em,same goes for the front brake switch. |

I'd say the clutch switch may be working fine but the sidestand switch probably is not. The clutch switch is also used for the starter interlock. If it is not working, then the starter won't crank if in gear. Does the bike start in gear with the clutch lever pulled in? If so, the clutch switch is likely OK. The ignition interlock ground signal goes through the neutral switch or the clutch switch or the sidestand switch via diodes depending on the various states of those switch components If the sidestand switch is defective (always open regardless if stand is up or down) the bike will die when put in gear and the clutch lever is released. |

Cleaned clutch switch with electrical cleaner. also started bike in both neutral and in gear with clutch lever pulled in. Problem still there. }how do I test the side stand? |

You will be pleasantly surprised how little that switch costs... IIRC it was under $5. |
