I have a 2009 XB12scg and the factory mirrors keep loosening up and I can't seem to get them to tighten up and STAY tight. Any suggestions I am getting very frustrated that they keep moving on me. |

If your are referring to the mirror head itself not staying adjusted use drop of clear fingernail polish in the swivel joint. |

To clarify, not the head of the mirror, it keeps swinging loose at the base and I tighten it and it loosens up again and now the other mirror is loosened up while riding so I had no mirrors. It seems that the compression fitting isn't holding the stem of the mirror tight so it just spins around (Message edited by chi-girl on June 20, 2010) |

Cut a strip about 1/2" wide by several inches long out of a beer can and roll it tight around a 3/8" bolt to form a coil then cut off a a piece that is just short of going 360 degrees around the mirror stalk. Remove the compression nut and open the the fingers slightly, leave the nut on the stalk and install the tube shaped shim. Did the can shim to my X1 mirrors several years ago. |

Thank you Jramsey. I just applied your suggestion and it seems to have done the trick. Another Buell group kept suggesting I use loctite but since the stem of the mirror is not threaded, I didn't see how that would have helped. Thanks again, I off for a ride. Just got back from my ride. The can shim is GENIUS and I never would have thought of it but it worked. Thanks again. (Message edited by chigirl on June 20, 2010) |
