Hi, I've just received a Barnett clutch cable to replace the stock one on my X1. It's the SS braid model version of the 656-96 model. Sorry if my questions are silly but I found some differences with the stock cable which leave me perplexed. First, I don't understand the presence of the long spring in the lower part of the cable...Is it useful of should I get rid of it ? Then, I noticed that there's no metal ferrule to maintain the cable in bent position after the lever...Does somebody experienced any problem when installed ? At last, should the cable be blocked in the frame clamp or should it move freely or so ? Thank you very much for any information/help. Michel. |

I haven't installed mine yet, but I ordered a Barnett clutch cable for my X1 as well--except I didn't get the SS braid option. The Barnett part number on my package is 101-31-10002. The "long spring" you are referring to--is it just to protect the exterior of the cable? That's what mine has. It runs up about 1/3 of the lower portion of the cable exterior on the Barnett replacement. The factory cable on my X1 doesn't have this. Also, I noticed it doesn't have the metal guide (ferrule?) near the lever, as you described--it is on my factory cable, however. And the clamp doesn't appear to hold the cable tight--it appears to be designed to allow the cable to move freely within its confines--at least on mine. I am installing mine today--if I come up with any more ideas, I will post them. Ditto? Thanks! T |
