What used model 9 or 12 {not a ULY} would you suggest that doesnt have your legs stuck up on such high rider pegs ? What year did they change to the longer life drive belt ? Still looking for one & trying to learn as much as possable. Thanks |

Since you ruled out the Uly, you have only two options. Firebolt and Lightning. All Firebolt models have the same no drop pegs, all Lightning models have the same 1" drop pegs. Both pegs are interchangeable. As for the belts, they were improving them pretty much year after year. 2004-2010 all use the same sprockets, so you can put a 2010 belt on a 2004. 2003 had different sprockets and was the only year for that design belt. |

Thats a big help, Im looking at an 03 Bolt and I dont want a 1 year only belt although it would die of old age before I wore it out with all the bikes I have. I prefer a 12 over a 9 also. Does anyone make a peg lowering kit for them ? Only one Ive ever ridden was a 95 Thunderbolt. (Message edited by mtkawboy on April 22, 2010) |

If you got an 03, a popular option is to convert to a 2004+ setup. Problem is, its something like $400 as it requires front and rear sprocket, idler pulley, belt guards, and obviously a belt. The belt on the 03 isn't bad, but it is really easy to damage if you don't install and remove it correctly as written in the service manual. Good news is, there was no 03 XB12, so any 12 you get will have the newer setup. For the pegs, you can buy a set of Lightning pegs that give a 1" drop for about $30, or you can go aftermarket and get something from Knight Designs as they have many options including 2" drop pegs. |

The Knight design ones are perfect. Is there any problem getting parts now that Buell has been dropped by HD ? Surely someone had to buy up all the parts inventory ? |

There pretty much is no inventory, all part orders are made to order. Parts availably is about the same as it was a year ago. Most parts including frames, motors, and bodywork are still available. Some stuff has been showing longer lead times, as to be expected from smaller part runs. |
