Is it just me or is the rear brake on 97 Cyclones not very aggressive? The rear on this bike, I just bought, only slows the bike down ( a little )and really doesn't "grab" much. Pedal is firm (no air) and it has new pads installed (by dealer during tire change). The guy I bought it from stated the rear brake didn't work much but I figured it was due to the worn rear pads. Looks like he was right but I'm not sure if this one has a problem or it's normal. |

It's normal. The rear brake was designed to be weak to prevent it from locking up and skidding-i.e. "lowside". You should ALWAYS lead with the front brake (on a straight-on situation) and bring on the rear as an assistance- in a hard braking situation, 75% of the weight transfer is to the front wheel. Your car does this automatically through the proportioning valve. On a motorcycle, traction is your friend. Once the rear wheel begins to skid your friends have all gone home.
