I know this has probably been addressed countless times but I searched and can't seem to find a post. My 04 12s stumbles off idle when leaving lights. I currently have stock everything. Is there an easy cure or do I have to become a ecm spy pro? Thanks for any help. |

I have an 09 12s and it does the same thing and more the dealer tells me its normal there all like that there is nothing wrong with it. no wonder the japs out sell American made products. I would like to know how to fix this also apparently the dealer is going to be no help. Alan |

They might be telling you its normal because it is normal? Ever think of that? If you are getting the stumble, you are not riding correctly. Learn to use the clutch more. You can help reduce it a bit through various mods like a breather reroute and some tuning. |

A TPS reset done correctly can do wonders. |

Bullshit. there is no way this is normal....if a bikes Idle is suppose to be 1100 rpm than that where it should drop to and no lower. all the bikes I have ever had did this. (maintained correct Idle speed) and if it didn't there was a problem. I bet with a regular carb it would hold just fine. and now with all the electronic they say it ok . thats a fricken cop out....... |

oh I forgot . my bike stumbles sometime and the idle drops down to 600 when i goose it a little at a stop.I am sure these people are seeing the same problem.as I open the throttle slow the idle drops a couple hundred and the motor is not running at well as it was before I put my hand on the throttle. 2010 xb12x |

I did the tps reset it lasted a day and it wasn't that good but for the most part it held the Idle better than before.I think it need a total adjustment of the butterfly and the ecm reset. for starters. then work though the problem if it is still remains |

I recently bought an 08 Uly and if I give the throttle a quick twist at idle it pops through the throttle body. While riding it seems flat till 4k rpm. My KLR 650 reved quicker. |

"The hiccup thru the TB is common, just try not to blip the throttle." It might be common but not really normal. In my X1, I blip the throttle every time I downshift and the only time it stumbles (very little) is if I twist the throttle real fast. And the bike is 10 years old. I certainly wouldn't expect a new bike do that. On Jap I4 sport bikes you can twist the throttle as fast you can the thing reacts with no hesitation whatsoever. I'm also guessing it something to do with the weight of the flywheel. |

I never said normal and more than enough people have experienced this to call it a common issue. The Japs do have lighter/smaller/stronger internal parts that allow it to rev faster. e.g. pistons, crank, flywheel, valves. |

So a single cylinder revs quicker than a twin, that means my triumph triple should rev even slower? |

All I have been simply implying is that less rotating mass usually equals faster revs. Why must people compare to imports anyhow? They are completely different machines. |

Is this just the nature of the beast? I thought being a newer fuel injected machine it would be more responsive. What rpm would be considered lugging with this bike? When I cruise say 3rd gear at 3000 rpm it feels like it's running out of gas or a dead miss. |

I guess you could say that. I think the settings they have to use to comply with EPA standards causes a lot of this. Most if not all of these issues can be fixed using ECMSpy. For example the white wire mod on the 03-07 XB9's, the wire is there to help pass EPA tests. There are a couple tables in ECMSPy just for Acceleration Enrichment, which is used to prevent the hesitating or hiccup. I like to cruise a little bit above 3k. How can I get ecmspy it's an 08 Ulysses? I know they come set lean for emissions but I never thought it would feel like it's running on a single cylinder. I have to run 4k and above for any smoothness in the engine. Are there any guru's around south central PA I could take it to? |

I can provide you a link to the program, but I am not familiar with the process or the key needed for the '08+ bikes. Maybe someone else with tune in and shed some light on the situation. |

flat spot 3500 to 4500 definitely. but instant tune up as I call it makes it go away for a day. but that's on a 2010, Do the tps reset.. flat spot goes away/the off Idle studder hardly noticeable ... I thought it was in learn mode at this point,, But my xb is stupid it forget every thing it learned in a few restarts and feel like it goes too lean AGAIN. |

How about tuneboy or another program? |

TunerPro and WinOLS are commonly used programs for the newer Buells. |

I've had similar experiences to whats described here with my new 09 XB12XT. off idle, if i don't roll on the throttle as a i release the clutch, the bike can hiccup through the throttle body as others have described. sometimes also happens if i attempt to blip the throttle, so i don't do it often. I have had the bike in for a service at the scheduled interval and have been told it is normal. if its normal, fine, but it's still something i would like to amend. i've also noticed the bike tends to run a tad lean cruising beneath 3000 rpm or so, the throttle feeling a little 'sputtery' so to speak. |

It gradually gets worse the longer the ride I take. After riding 3 1/2 hrs today 2 or so of it highway steady 3500 rpm 70mph or so. Towards the end it was running that rough it felt like I was riding on a cobblestone road. Maybe the ECM is bad? |

Ok, now on the way home I ran a higher rpm around 4000, for the same amount of time and no issues. |

Seems to me that the "happy zone" for these motors is above 4K rpm. I don't use 5th gear until 80mph or above. |
