So here's the deal, I put a NRHS 150 kit with thunderstorm heads with NRHS stage 2 light work, mikuni hsr42,SE 536 cams,.060 shorter fixed pushrods, stock lifters, stock rockers, stock intake, force street fight exhaust and an ultima programable single fire ignition on my 98 S1. I have good vale to piston clearance, squish band is good(.028-.038), My cams are properly timed( all the dots line up) I was told by NRHS to use a#30 pilot jet #165 main jet and to set the c-clip in the center groove of the needle. I installed the ignition as per the instructions using their coil and the stock voes switch. The ignition has a led for static timing the motor and it says turn the motor over by hand until #1 cylinder is at TDC on the compresion stoke then rotate the ignition clockwise just until the led goes off and tighten down the ignition which i did. Now when I try and start the bike all I get is back firing out the exhaust. I've checked for spark its good at both cylinders, rechecked the static timing, then I thought the back firing might be from a rich condition, so after stepping down from #30 to #27.5 to #25 starting the mixture at 2 full turns out for each and going leaner half a turn at a time all I get is more back firing. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I AM DOING WRONG????? |

Well, if you had a stock ignition module, it should start right up. But you have an aftermarket ignition module, so I don't know what problems that brings to the table. You said it is programmable, so how do you know if it is programmed correctly? Why don't you borrow a stock ignition module and see if it starts? |

well here's what i found so far, have poor compression on rear cylinder i used a modified compression tester and my air compressor to presurize the cylinder on TDC on compression stroke, front cylinder was good just a very litte air going by both valves and ring but just blowing out exhaust valve on rear cylinder. so after a testing cylinders with compressed air again with rocker boxes off no leaks or rear any more so no bent valves. after removing exhaust I visually inspected exhaust valve on BDC intake stroke and TDC on compression stroke and the exhaust valve is being held open on both. I visually inspected both exhaust pushrods seem to be the same not enough to hold the valve open .030 or so. Then I reinspected cam timing and all the dots line up, so as best I can figure I have a bad cam or cams brand new SE out of the box I plan to measure #1 and #4 cams tomorow and compare. If anybody else has any other ideas please share. |

Sparky, I was told by NRHS that i couln't use a stock ignition withe those cams because the intake stroke is starting when you would get the wasted spark so I have to use single fire, otherwise I would have. Thanks Eric |
