So I just picked up an XB9R firebolt in october and I am doing a once over before taking it out for its first ride of the season. When inspecting the primary oil level (transmission oil), I placed the bike on a stand so it was vertical, and then removed the clutch inspection cover. The oil was just changed by the previous owner, but I can't tell if it needs a top up or not. The diagram in both the service manual and owner's manual is very ambiguous. It has a dotted line, but the picture seems to have been taken on an angle, so I have no idea where that line is??? In the directions, it says to fill up to the diaphragm spring, which doesn't help, since I don't know what that is??? Could someone please instruct me as to where the oil level should be filled to? A better picture would be amazing! Thanks. |

Look at the picture closely and you should see the wavy/notched piece through the opening in your primary cover (exactly as depicted in this picture). Just add oil until it just touches the wavy area with the bike held upright/level.

Oh wow! thats a way better picture than the one I have in my manual! Mine is horrible. This one makes a lot more sense. Thanks very much. |

Does the bike need to be level (on a rear stand) or on its side stand?... manual is a little ambiguous on this too and it makes a big difference in the amount of fluid. :-) thanks |
