Thanks again, Loki. One way or another, that thing is going on the bike, dammit! Did you loosen the header pipes when you put your on? I'm thinking that may help with bracket positioning. |

Hi everyone, I guess you could call me a brand new Bueller (Buellie?). I just bought my first Buell, a '98 S1. I want to replace the factory muffler with an aftermarket one. I'd like to make it considerably louder (I am an obnoxious Harley owner also, don't want to break into cold sweats riding a quiet bike) as well as boost the ponies. I looked at the archives, and saw that a lot of people are having problems with things breaking on aftermarket mufflers for Buells (flimsy welds, mounts, etc.). I've seen a lot of praise for Daytona's Boss, but I've also seen a lot of cursing when people try to put the doggone things on. Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions?? Thanks Mike |

ATT: Mike(aka Hogluvr) Go with the FACTORY race header and muffler. In the long run you will be better satisfied. Friend has this set-up and is very pleased. Only problem was the clamp at the collector/ muffler would slide to a loose position.I showed he what safty wire was for and he has had no more trouble with the clamp!!!! In buelling BUELLISTIC and/or Hardley-Harley |

Hey Mike, The Streetfighter is the LOUDEST AND MEANEST sounding race pipe you can buy. Battle2wins horsepower champ. I have a 2000 M2 with the Streetfighter and Forcewinder air/intake ,it's awesome. No other race pipe comes close. Check out Force Motor Products. |

Thanks for the input, guys. I was hoping to get away with just a muffler for now, maybe go to a header later. Any suggestions for just a muffler? Thanks, Mike |

Hi Mike - You'll get so many varying opinions between mufflers here. Supertrapp,V&H,WhiteBros,Daytona,WileyCo,Factory Race , etc, etc, etc !! I went with the V&H. Why ? Sounds good, looks good and easy to install. You'll see they have had some past history but hopefully corrected. I think everyone will agree that V&H does stand behind their product. Look/listen to as many as you can and get what you like best. Good Luck Troop |

I have a Wileyco pipe that I just installed yesterday. The fit and finish are excellent and it sounds mean as hell. The only real problem is that they weren't quite prepared for the demand from the US and had to step up production. My muffler was on backorder for 3 months. Worth the wait in my opinion. I plan to dyno the bike after 5000 miles and I'll post the results. |

I have a Vance & Hines, which failed at 7500 mi. due to rear(!) mount breakage, but Dudley Perkins (the pipe was dealer installed off the showroom floor) and V&H took care of me, and it came back with the '01 front mount, as well. It looks like the new pipe is a definite improvement, and with the new front mount, my feeling is it should last. I happen to really like the sound of the V&H, and if you wanted it louder, it's real easy to pull out some(or all) of the packing. My bike is a 2000 M2 w/ cams, race aircleaner |

Thanks, guys. I think I'm gonna go with the V&H. They seem to be pretty popular, and I found one at a price I don't think I can pass up... Mike |

Gmilk, I have a 99 M2 with the updated 01 exhaust mount bracket. I have been stuggling since last November to install the Daytona Boss with this combination, making clamps, spacers, etc. I was hoping the new 2001 clamp would make everything go together but it doesn't. I am so frustrated the Boss is back in the box about to be returned. I love the looks of the pipe and truly want to use it if it is reasonalby possible. I would appreciate any information you might get. Thanks. MitchS2 |

Mitchs2, I havent received the pipe yet, but I will pass along any info I can. Did you get the new BOSS 01 clamp? I spoke to Rek about a 2 weeks ago and they werent finished making them. I called him again late last week and he said they are ready to go. Im keeping my fingers crossed. Loki-It seems you have the most info on this...did you change to the new mount and bracket? |

Well now..... No I have not changed to the new style mount. Unless I need to ever remove the BOSS permantly I will not be. Mitch, I know you really did not like the idea of welding two tabs onto the pipe. I am gonna catch up with Rek next weekend. Show him my drawings and see what he thinks. All, Anyone considering a BOSS pipe and updating to the new bracket. KEEP the older style mount and put the ASB damper in it. The pipe will fit like mine is mounted and not stress anything out. I now have over 4k miles on it installed this way. No problems have reared thier ugly heads. This is with the original bushing also. Gary, I hope the new clamp set-up works for you. I know how frustrated Mitch is about it. loki |

Unfortunately, I'm with Mitch on this whole Boss thing. The pipe looks good and sounds great...much better than anything else I have heard out there. It is deep, rich, and loud, but not rediculously so. That said, the bracketry is inexcusable. It looks like the fruit of a grade school shop project, and that might be generous. I'm disappointed that Mitch is having problems with the updated '01 mounting bracket, as I've just ordered and received this from Daytona HD with the thought that, perhaps, this thing would mount up better to the new mount with the new bracket than with the old mount and bracket. I'm going to have another installation guru look at this mess and see if they can make any combination of these parts fit on my M2 properly. I hope that it does, but if not, I'll be looking at refund or resale as well. I'm also going to attempt the "Loki" mount, as it appears to be much better thought out than Daytona H-D's plan! Keeping my fingers crossed! |

Does anyone know if Rek reads this board? Is he aware so many people are having a hard time with his pipe? It doesnt seem like it should be that difficult of a thing. If they can make such a great pipe why cant they make a great clamp for it? Are we all missing something here...maybe he mounts these up no problem at all. The shop I ordered mine through still hasnt gotten it in, but Im hoping Rek can help me out with it when it does come in. I appreciate all the info from everyone...the more the better. Gmilk |

Loki, Cyclonem2drew, Gmilk Hey guys, its finally bolted up! For anybody who came in late, I have a 99 M2 with the updated exhaust bracket and have been trying to install a Daytona Boss pipe. I got disgusted with the whole situation and put it back in the box, enclosed the purchase receipts, and taped it up for the UPS man to take it back to Florida. Yesterday I put the stock muffler back on to get ready for the spring riding season. I noticed that when I tightened the bolt on the front muffler tabs, the rubber bushings inside the updated mount shifted toward the center line of the muffler. I had no idea until then that the bushings will float inside the bracket flanges. Today I took off the stock muffler, reopened the box and started over again. Using the newly available 2001 Boss front clamp I was able, (after a lot of profanity) to get the front bolt through the updated bracked. It was only possible because of the new postion of the rubber bushings from the stock muffler reinstallation. This was my procedure: 1. Bolt 2. Washer 3. Rubber bushing 4. Clamp tab 5. Donut Thingie 6. Clamp tab 7. Rubber bushing 8. Washer 9. Stop nut It is against my principles but I had to use a long punch to pry the clamp into position in order to get the bolt through. I also losened the headers to get a little more flexability. I was also careful not to over torque the front bolt to allow the rubber bushings to find their most comfortable position and allow the "donut thingie"to absorb some of the vibs. I am somewhat concerned about the exhaust system being in tension but only time and some miles will tell. Now if the snow would only melt enough to get out of the driveway. ( Live at 7,000 feet) Its sad that the Boss comes without any instructions to help the consumer. Had I known the rubber bushings would move it would have saved three months of aggravation. I guess thats the way it will be until Rek gets tired of answering the phone. A special thanks to Loki for his help and interest the past couple of months. This kind of help is exactely what this BBS should be for. Hope this helps other get their Boss installed. I will stay tuned for any questions. |

MitchS2- That's encouraging information! I'm going back to square one tomorrow AM at my Buell dealer, and we'll try to sort this whole thing out. I'm armed with the original front bracket (already on the bike holding the thing up!), a NEW '00 front bracket (in case the bracket was part of the problem), and a '01 bracket. Some how, some way, this thing WILL go on my M2 without stressing the mount or my header pipes! It sure does sound great...I keep telling myself that! Loki - kudos to you for offering your services in Daytona! If I lived within 200 miles of there, I'd be there! |

Mitch, If you got it up and secured with just some slight tension, I believe you will have no problems. Give it a couple heating cycles and see what happens to the tension. Drew, Just mail me the bike...... Gmilk, Laconia is out of the question for me. Sometimes my job sucks, when trying to get some time off.... To all good thoughts and happy endings loki |

Loki - Thanks for the offer! Do I attach the stamp to the headlight? Well, it's bolted up for good now...I had another person remove, inspect, and reinstall the Boss, and he was reasonably certain that it's installed properly. I also had the carb adjusted properly. Now that it's all done, what a difference! I only had one day this weekend to enjoy it, but the M2 is definately MUCH quicker in the low and mid-speed ranges. The top end (over 80) feels about the same as before, which is not a problem for me. As for the sound, downshifting through 4 gears to a stop light was never so entertaining! |

Well I got my Boss pipe and its on!!! Only took about an hour. Thanks to everyone for the info, especially Loki, and Mitchs2. I mounted it the same way Mitchs2 did...get those 2 bushings on the mount to come into the center, losen the header a bit, a little elbow grease and she lines up. It didnt seem to put any pressure on the header either. Here some pics of the front mount and the whole setup. Front Mount Side View Thanks again, Gmilk |

Drew, I am not sure where they would require the stamp to be placed. Come to think, It won't fit through the auto sorting equipment. Glad to hear you like the rumble factor. Gmilk, Glad it worked out. Let us know how you like the sound.... loki |

Loki, CycloneM2drew, GMilk I took my first chilly but rewarding ride on my Daytona Boss equipped M2. As soon as I fired it up it was apparent the engine was breathing better and smoother. Had turn the idle down after it warmed up. Clearly more torque through the mid range, just right for my needs. (Geezer) Glad I could help. Pics look just like my installation. Thanks everybody. |

Acharacter I called Vance and Hinds last week to see if their pipe would fit the new bracket. The person I talked to stated they have not yet been able to get a 2001 Buell from a local dealer to try it for fit. You can call them at (562-921-7461) |
