I am about to replace my tires on my S3T. I will ride in just about anything and therefore need a tire that works well in wet weather. Also I will ride year round if possible (depending on how bad the winter is). I live in the Western suburbs of Philadelphia. I currently have the stock Dunlops on the bike. They seem to be ok. I am able to get about 10k out of the rear and about 15+ out of the front. I have apx 6 options. Avon - Azaro - ST Metzler - ME Z4 Steel Radial Dunlop - Either OEM or D220 Michilin (I hope I spelled that correctly) - Pilot Sport or Macadm 100x Out of the tires listed, which would be the best for me? If there are others that I have missed, please offer additional suggestions. I am just looking for a tire that has better than avg wet/dry weather traction and if possible a tire that gives me a little better treadwear. Thanks in advance for your input! |

James, I have used all the tires you listed and have decided the Michelin Pilot Road is the best for me. I put between 15k and 20k a year on my S3T and like you ride in all conditions. Everyone seems to have their own preferences. These are mine. Both the Donlop and Metzler cupped on the front. For me the Metzler did not feel secure when pushed hard in turns. I liked the Avons but they did not wear well (5k) on the rear and it was toast. They also were the most expensive. The Michelin 100x was replaced by the Pilot Road. I can buy the Michelin as cheap as any other brand. I like the way they feel. No cupping problems and wear is good. For what its worth. John |

Hey Dave, I still have the "Beast". I offered it to one of your KC riders but he retreived his old S3 from Bill I think. I have just been doing my exercises like a good doobe since the operation. I have spring fever like you cant beleive. I think I may just wait a while to see what shows up for 2005. The "Beast" runs great with no problems. I was just getting the hots for some of the other bikes out there and I cant afford two. 88 inches is a lot of fun. Later, John |

I've always been partial to Metzeler tires. I currently use MeZ4 on the S2 and had those on the S3 as well. I've even used the MeZ4 on track with the S3 and never had an issue with lack of grip. Metzeler just came out with a new tire supposed to replace the MeZ4 (can't remember the name) with better grip and better wear characteristics. That will be my next tire for the S2. I honestly don't remember how many miles I get on the MeZ4, but it's usually 1 front to 2 rears. Speaking of traction; a friend of mine used to run an MeZ4 rear tire on his RC51 track bike (he's fast too - runs with the fastest of the guys in Blue/Black group with TPM). Says it has plenty of traction and when it slides (he likes to spin it up coming out of turns ) it does so predictably. Henrik |

V2Win...So I am assuming that you like the Michelins better than the stock Dunlop D205s that were on your bike? |
