Could also be the starter relay. I had it happen on my S2, acted quite odd. |

Battery checked out fine at schmucks. Cleaned up terminals and ground. Seems to be working alot better now. I also noticed I may not have been pushing the starter switch all the way down getting full contact. Seems to be all good now. Thanks for the input!! |

Don't mean to hijack but I'm havin starter drama myself. If my bike gets really hot when riding, I have trouble getting it to restart after switching it off for fuel stops and such. Normally if I let it cool down it's all good. Here's the symptoms...click click click click. Like a dead battery but the battery is good. Is my starter going bad. If so, what years are compatible with 03 xb9? Just about all of them right? |

Its_a_buell, have your battery load tested at Autozone. You either have a battery on the way out, or a bad connection. To answer your question, they use the same starter as the sportster, so pretty much any Buell or sporster made in the last like 20 years would work. |

another one to check with a clicking starter is the solenoid plunger copper ring, it gets pitted, take the end cover off the solenoid, remove plunger and clean with a file/sandpaper. also over tightening the +ve terminal on the solenoid can move the contact inside the case resulting in a poor connection when you hit the start button. The contact inside the case should be held in position while you tighten up your +ve cables. |

Do what Snowbees suggested...Takes about 15 minutes and well worth it. |

Mine had to go in for a starter something or other replacement right before the warranty ran out. The starter had completely stopped turning the motor over... didn't even click anymore! |
