Just how does this valve work?
What RPM's does it open? Does it work off of the TPS and RPM's?
I've ridden my XB12 with the airbox cover removed and watched the valve, and all I've seen it do is open all the way, and then close, and that was at WOT.
I've never seen it open a little, or open and stay open on high speed runs.
My curiosity is getting to me, and I've been unable to find a good explanation in the manual, or on the internet.

Can someone enlighten me?

Its fully open or fully closed. When in the open position, the exhaust is routed differently, in more of a straight through path to maximize flow. The valve is pretty much only open during WOT, as thats the only time the bike can benefit. The closed path benefits the low and midrage power curves, hence why you don't see the valve open much.

The valve is either fully open or fully closed. It works off RPM. You get a short pipe (valve open) at low RPM, a long pipe (valve closed) at medium RPM and a short pipe (valve open) at high RPM. The valve only works at WOT, but this is configurable as is the ability to change the switching points.

I was thinking about replacing the stock exhaust on my 07 XB12R with an aftermarket unit, but am unsure how this will affect the Interactive system on the bike. I am assuming that aftermarket mufflers will not use the system, and I have read that the check engine light will come on with the system disconnected. I will keep searching the knowledge vault for info but any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

You can either leave the servo in place and disconnect the cable or get a servo emulator from American Sport Bike. The emulator tells the ECM that the servo is still there and functioning.

I might get round to updating it for ECM tweaks for 08/09/10...
