While doing an oil change about a week ago a friend that was watching me shined his flashlight up towards my rear cylinder and noticed a decent amount of oil collecting there. We took a closer look without actually removing anything and noticed a few drops of oil on the hoses in the area and a pretty good collection of oil on the cooling fan. I haven't torn anything down to have a look just yet because i haven't had time and have no garage, so when nightfall hits i'm pretty much S.O.L. Now. I did notice it was fairly oily in the air filter box about a month back when i was changing spark plugs, but didn't really think much about it. Is this most likely a head gasket issue or could it possibly be breather related or...? Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. thanks. |

I would see if you can clean it up as well as possible, and run the engine for a short amount of time and see if you can pinpoint where the oil is coming from. This is assuming you didn't overfill (2.5 quarts max). If you did overfill, the engine is probably puking it into your airbox. If not, maybe rocker box cover gasket. Also, make sure your breather is fully seated in the grommet in the head. Let me know what you find. |
