I have been doing a lot of research over the last couple of days, because I am putting a Jardine exhaust and K&N air filter on my Buell. I have been told I need to purchase another ECM or get the stock ECM re-mapped, so the bike does not run lean. I do not truly know anything about tuning motorcycles, so I went looking for a self-adjusting ECM unit. The Remus Powerizer appears to be my best bet. What do you guys think? Thank you in advance. Also, I have a 2008 XB9SX. I am looking at purchasing a Remus Powerizer off of a 2008 XB12R. Will it work with my XB9? Thanks! |

If the Buell XB9 had a "dumb" device like a carburetor whereby one could simply change jets to enrichen the fuel mixture, then yeah go ahead with the Remus. But that's not the case because the XB9 has a "smart" fuel injection system designed to operate within defined EPA emissions requirements. It's hard to outsmart this system by simply adding more fuel. AFAIK, any kind of aftermarket fuel mixture modifier that attempts to enrichen the mixture (add fuel), will turn out to be counterproductive if using the stock ECM because of the way the ECM manages the fueling between closed loop (O2 and other sensors learning mode operation that sets Adaptive Fuel Value [AFV]) and open loop (fuel mapping modified by learned closed loop AFV). Generally the ECM will tend to lean out the mixture if it senses extra fueling say from a fuel enrichening device like the Remus. There are probably other options but I'd suggest to go with the advice you were told and find someone, preferably with a dyno, to change the mapping for the aftermarket components you are running, sans Powerizer. |

I appreciated how descriptive your post was; I want to know why things are they way they are. You answered this. Thanks! |
