I have a 2007 Ulysess and have an intermitting problem when turning on the ignition switch. When the switch is turned on the headlight will come on but the dash don't come on, flick the switch again and everything works. The motor has not cut off on me yet when I’m riding. So the other day when I started the bike, I had the motor running and put the bike back on the side stand, she cut off and the dash went out. My question now, is the ignition switch a reliable piece and the ignition relay faulty? You can check those things at the current moment and be working okay and don’t find anything. It has to be one or the other, it’s cheaper to replace the relay and see if the problem doesn’t come back, if so the switch could be bad. I just want to know if anyone out there had that problem and see what y’all did and found out. I appreciate any input on that. |

Coldwind, your symptoms don't sound quite the same as reported for the ignition switch - however that is easy to check. If the contact is getting dirty it will have some resistance - this post has instructions on checking the two sets of contacts (and how to replace it). http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/469719.html?1245280968 I'll have a look at the circuit diagram later when I have some time. |

Hello Ray, Thanks for the link and thanks to all those who was looking to correct the problems. I have more insight to what I could do next, I did already ordered a relay and it's coming in Thursday/Friday for the price of $5.99 which is really not bad. I did not mention that the problem was more prevalent when cold. I really suspect the ignition switch contacts needs a good cleaning which I am going to shoot for. Considering that as being mentioned in the link. My bike does have over 40,000 miles on it and it’s probably time to open up the switch. I will keep y'all posted as to what I had to do. Thanks again. |

Coldwind, you could steal the Aux relay and swap it for the ignition relay if you want to try something while waiting for the the spare to come in - it's only used for the two 12v Aux outlets. At 40,000 miles the ignition switch could well be a bit dirty - mine continues to work perfectly after the clean that I documented in that old post. |

Hello Ray, I did swap around the relays and seem to be better, the weather been cold and very little riding time now. I still going to open up the ignition switch for the cleaning when the weather is more suitable to work on the bike. I had to replace the back tire this past Sat, worn just down to the cord. I didn't think I was that close! I will let you know when I finish and how It all turned out. Happy Holidays to y'all folks down under. : ) |
