Sparky, that's funky. When my battery cable came loose (I think it was the negative) first it started missing. Then the tach "turned upside down" when I let it idle with the clutch in (still rolling in case I had to restart) showing about 7000 RPM at idle. Under power, missing badly at this point, going 50 MPH in fourth gear it showed 500 RPM. At the point where the battery cable actually let loose (I guess) I had a complete lose of power. Couldn't keep any speed at all. It'd idle, but no go. At first I thought it was the side stand switch. Then I noticed the battery cable was free of the battery. I retapped the battery block to 1/4-20 (I love lead) and reattached the cable and was on my way in five minutes. All the problems took place in a four mile spread. bighairyralph |

Hey BluzM2 - All my dealer had in stock were the washers/nuts/cushions. I'll be curious on the time frame for the plastic dash. Look up crossroads.com for billet aluminum dash info. I believe they'll sell blems(I hear you can't really tell the diff) for around $90. I also hear they look real nice but I'll start with plastic with the add-on trim rings. This set-up also looks good. |

I am concerned about the Blast battery conversion for the S1. The battery on the X1 is quite a bit larger. With the engine/starter in an X1 essentially being the same as in the S1 why would one use a battery of lesser capacity? What are these capacities anyway? Where are the battery specs (amp/hr.) or what is the current consupmtion (amps.) of the starter? Buell mysteries? These are questions I would like answered before I get a new battery that may not start the bike any better than my ailing stock unit. After all I have upped the compression and my starter is 5 years and 40,000 miles old. Jose |

Troop, Crossroads is real close to me up here in MN. They are just across the river at Somerset WI. Some of the guys there are Brag members. Hope to see them at the next meeting. I'll check on the blems and let you know what I find out. BluzM2 |

Bluz, Don't have an answer for that one. I wish it conformed to the flyscreen better. All the part numbers I posted earlier came straight from the instruction sheets. I got to give Buell credit here. How many add on kits come with all the pertinent part numbers. If you ordered all the pieces save for the panel for less than a c-note. that tells me that piece of aluminum is a little over priced. Let me see, 265.00 less 100.00 equals ...... Bluz, some info for you. I went to school in Hastings, grew up between New Trier and Miesville, was living in River Falls before the job moved me down here(Fla). I have tubed the Apple and Kinikinic, took a hot air ride out of Lakeland. The roads around there make for some good riding. If you have not tried this you ought to; Wisc. Hwy 35 south out of Prescott to the crossing at Red Wing, go south on hwy 61 to Lake City. head for the south end of Pepin and cross back over into Wis., come back north on the sconny side to Prescott. loki |

Loki, YOU DA MAN!!!!! Thanks for the trip route. I was planning on finding a good loop in that area this spring. You may have saved me a few "too flat, too straight" research runs. BluzM2 |

An electrical problem: Turn signals not working. I replaced the module with the Buell part. Simple R&R. With the engine not running, ignition on, the new module worked fine. Started the bike. New module now is not working ! now it appears dead. Same as old one ! WTF ? History: A few weeks ago not riding for a week, the battery died. After charging I started the bike, while removing charger clamps, I accidentally sparked the + lead. Noticed next ride turn signals not working. Related damage to the electrical system ? what else is wrong ? |

Jmartz - The new battery has much higher capacity than the one it replaces, though I have not seen specific ratings. I can tell you that my bike no longer suffers from false engagements of the starter. I have left the bike untended for up to 5 weeks and the battery has cranked the motor for several minutes while the bone-headed owner forgot to open the fuel petcock. Go for it without worries my friend. Dave T |

Loki, Troop thanks a ton for the tach info!! I've been wanting to add a tach for a while but the price (now quoted at $280 by my dealer) has been a bit much. I just ordered the items using the info you each supplied last week. He's some new info for all. Dash panel #M0660.01A3 is now a back order item. Hopefully they'll be shipping again on 1/19 (rather than update the back order date). Ignition switch label #32765-97Y is in their system as Decal, dash panel #Y0619.01A3 for $2.65 When ordering, use the P/Ns Troop provided. While Loki's P/Ns are good (i.e., in the computer listings), their prices come up much higher (because their veiwed as part of the tach kit package?). Anyway, this info has been most excellent. With tax, title & license, this way will be $163.03 cheaper than the kit. Hmmm... I know they're still making money selling me the separae parts. I wonder why.... Well, here's to another neat project to have me playing w/ my Buell while awaiting the snow, ice and cold to go away. H-man |

A while back asked a question about changing out a headlamp to the new H4 lamp (or something similar)that cars are using. A a bit of research I gave up because the cost just looked to high. Then wandering around American Sportbike's web site and what do I see. A kit for the Blast and/or the M2 for a whopping $105 or there abouts. Guess I know what my next bike mod is going to be. I'll post the results when I do it Peace Tony |

I just bought a used 2000 Cyclone M2, and the owner indicated that the speedo had just stopped working recently. I went through the archives here and saw a little bit of discussion hinting that this may be a known problem... What's the general fix... new speed sensor? Clean speed sensor? Bad connection somewhere? Bad speedo? Thanks for any help... |

Hi Reep, Welcome to the brotherhood. That buy was the best buy you could do. Probably a bad sensor if you see numbers, but not changing, and a dead pointer. Cheap to replace. Get an Service Manual ASAP if you do`nt have it already. The M2 rides much smoother without speedo.:-) Ride&Smile Hans |

Hey Troop...I know the feeling! No word on my dash yet, either! I've still had things to tinker with though...I bought a Force Intake and a Boss Pipe (the Boss I think I will defer to the dealer, though). The intake is fun...I'm trying to track down a new breather part I heard about that will clean up the look...I hate the hoses and catch cans and crap that looks "bolt on." |

OK... pulled and cleaned the speedo sensor last night, and still no joy this morning. I have a live speedometer with lights and mileage showing, but no movement in the needle or odometer. Sounds like a bad speed sensor. Anybody replace this? How much was the part? Anybody perform a post mortem on the old part to see what was failing? Can they be rebuilt? Is this the same part as on the sportster? I'm preaching to the chior here... but BOY is this a nice bike Bill |

The speedo sensor is the same one used on Buells, Blasts, and Sportsters. And the factory installed ones go out/bad on a regular basis. Once replaced they rarely seem to go bad, at least I haven't heard of any reports of replaced sensors going bad. More hassle than hard work replacing it, hardest part is getting to the plug under where your left thigh is, under the bodywork. Remove the tank, lift up the bodywork after removing the bolts under the seat, then follow the wire harness from the sensor to the connector. Have a couple of tie wraps handy, and have fun fishing one thru and around the framework behind the battery to secure the connector after you replace the sensor assembly. I just left my old sensor tiewrapped to the battery clamp, gives the tech inspector at the BattleTrax something to scratch their heads about. |

Thanks for the tip Mikej... I will attach an end of the new tie to the old tie before cutting it off, and use it to fish the new one through... should save a few knuckles and a pint of blood or so Bill |

Update on my '01 M2 Dash conversion situation...my parts all came in, and I picked them up last nite...ready to install! Everything looks great..the only exception is that the tach IS the X1 tach (with the idiot lights). The tach w/out the lights is more money...like $40 more...I'll live with it. Unless you knew to look for them, you wouldn't notice anyway. I'm hoping to use the extra lights eventually anyway...maybe a light for a remote radar detector like a K40? Hmmm They also had on the floor a brand new M2 Low in Blue. The dash looked great on the '01...new wheels looked good. I cannot understand the people saying that the '01 shock LOOKS better than the SRP'd version, though. Aside from the remote reservoir, it almost looks like a big silver SRP'd shock anyway. There was an '00 right next to the '01, and it's hard to see the difference in person. I want the better ride, though, so I gotta get them to warranty one of them for me! |

I'm right there wit 'cha boys. Everything except the dash panel decals (P/N Y0619.01A3) came in and I now have it all in my hot little hands. Since my garage isn't heated, I think I'll wait for the temp to rise to ...oh... mid-30's before I embark on my labor of love. BTW, I have a feeling that with the new dash panel, the tach cover isn't necessary. Any thoughts or comments from any of you who've completed your installation? The H-man |
