Ive seen some picks on here of some guys old tubers with polished stock pipes. I think they look realy cool. Id like to give it a shot on my M2 during the winter. Can some one give me some instruction on how they did this. My pipes are discolored at the top going into the engine. Does doing this get rid of the discoloration? Thanks, Eric |

Start with about 400 grit sandpaper. Sand them down. Then do the same with 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, and finally 2000. Finish with some sort of metal polishing paste if necessary. If you take your time and do it right, they will come out reel nice. Kilroy |

Is it best to take it off the bike while doing this (dumb question)? How long will the shine last before I have to hit it with the metal polish again? How does it look up near the motor when it heats up again? Thanks Kilroy! |

00 - You will have to take it off to do it correctly, or else you will bust up your knuckles and you will not be able to get around all the tubes. It will look nickel plated when you are done, but it soon will revert back to the "gold" color. It should remain shiny, though for quite a while, until the elements / sand / etc scratch it up again. You should be able to periodically hit it with the 2000 and polish again to bring back the luster. |

Save yourself the time and hassle, send it out to be electropolished. It comes out looking like a mirror. I'm going to have all my headers done this winter. 2 S2's and 1 M1 race header (if I can figure out a way to get the Jethot coating off..). There is a place in St. Paul that will do it for about $110 each. I've seen their work, it's is like a mirror. Brad |
