this is a bit of a cross-post from my transmission issue... see here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=3842&post=1394312#POST1394312 quoted from that thread: since i cannot open the trans without taking the WHOLE ENGINE APART, i have an even bigger project on my hands. i am now soliciting advice from anyone who has rebuilt an XB12. since it will all be apart anyway, what should i do while i'm in there? i consider myself fairly capable as a mechanic, but it has been a while since i rebuilt an engine. i'm doing this alone in my garage... what would you do in this position? |

originally, my budget was "as little as possible"... but now i think it's around $2k, realistically. i'm looking for things i really SHOULD do while i'm in there, along with high bang-for-the-buck performance mods. in that category, thoughts so far include: * Rev.Perf. 1250 kit * balanced crank but, i don't know what parts i may find to be damaged. if i find that i HAVE to do certain other work, the "fun" parts might fall out of the budget. |

i see. well balancing the crank might be a waste of funds, but it might be nice to have it looked at to make sure the bearings are all set. if it were me id skip the 1250 kit because the 500 bucks for 47cc could be put to better use. head porting. stage 2 or 3. cam to feed the heads with more air. redshift 585 exhaust. fueling. thats a good start. and thats going to net u way more power then that few extra cc's. |

you can balance the piston sets for the price of a digital scale,or borrow one. |
