Just got my XP, and, loving the bike! I went to run a gerbings cable from the battery up to bars where I like it. I'm glad I tried just after a ride, cos, I realized just how hot it really gets up there under the airbox cover. Around the frame etc. This concerns me. heat, and, wires. Bad combo! I was going to run it along the main wiring harness, but, it was too tight. I guess I have a two part question. My bike has the original cop wiring harness. Can I tie into that? Also, in general, where do most of you run wires? I'll eventually want to add some accessory lights off the battery, and, my gps, which is currently just plugged into accessory outlet. Is there a way to tie it all in under the screen at the front of the bike? Normally, I would tap a relay for my centech panel. Power from battery to centech and all the junk wired to the centech. Now, I concerned about running wires anywhere near frame. Thanks! |

I don't think you will hurt good wires up against the frame. It gets hot, but not *that* hot. I suspect those wires are rated for 100 degrees C, meaning if water isn't boiling when you touch it to the frame, your wires are fine as well. I have lots of wires up against that frame (and so do you, right up near your steering head) and have had no problems in 30k miles. |

I have a little rats' nest of wires I installed running between the frame & engine on my cg and all is well. |
