Just got thru installing a Pingle petcock on my 01 M2 Cyclone. The petcock was a Pingle PN 1211-AH and you need a Pingle PN AC1602C adaptor plate. The bolt hole pattern on the adaptor plate was slightly mismatched and I had to relieve the clearance holes on the inside [I think] with a 3/16" chainsaw file just a bit. I didn't have to relieve the counterbores on the plate. I used the blue Hylomar sealant they provided. I may not have used enough but to make a long story short the gas disolved the Hylomar and the petcock assembly was leaking gas. Randy, the salesman at Pingle sent me two more gaskets [supplied with the original kit] and this time I used Hondabond. I've had real good service on all my bikes with Hondabond but mostly on motor parts sealing outter primaries and such and have no problems with leaks. I let the tank and petcock assembly set up for 5 days figuring that should be time enough for the Hondabond to cure up. Well the gas disolved the Hondabond and leaked again! On my third attempt I used NAPA black RTV silicon rubber auto sealant on both sides of the gasket and let it set up 24 hr. I also used teflon tape on the pipe threads. So far no leaks. I bought the Pingle kit because I thought I had a fuel delivery problem. In all the biker magazines there are all sorts of articles on how to soup up your Harley or Buell but very few mention the fact that if you soup them up you will usually need a higher flow petcock or your bike will stall out when it can't get enough fuel. If you only used teflon tape on the pipe threads the third time, that is probably where your leaks were the first 2 times. The hylomar on my Pingel plate lasted 3 years before the gas made its way through. Kilroy |
