in january i bought an 09 ulysses, zero miles. first off it would hardly run when cold, had to warm up at least 20 mins. took it back to dealer and they said to use low octane fuel. ok, that does help. but still had problems so i took it back again. this time they said they reset the computer and gave it back to me. ok, it does run better. still spits and coughs when cold or even cool. the real problem is that if i accelerate to avoid a car or whatever it "dies" then responds gung ho. since i have the throtle open, it usually tries to shove me off the back end. not too comfortable or safe. it seems to have a speed variation at a supposedly steady 3k rpm, and i cant power out of a sudden or hard left hand curve, ESPECIALLY if there are bumps. so much for off road use.
ive had carburated harleys but this thing has no adjustments or tweaks and i have zero confidence in the dealer. bike is totally stock with less than two thousand miles. (1700kms). runs great on open highway but thats usually with throttle wide open or close to it. its the opening of the throttle or acceleration that gives problem. also it seems to be air or mixture and not electrical, there are no backfires etc. just "dies" then responds as it should have in the first place.
i would like to be able to TELL the dealer to change a component that might be the cause, be it a sensor or cpu, whatever. can anyone name a likley widget?

To do a TPS reset on 08 and 09 bikes
1. Switch the Run/Stop switch to the Run position.
2. Turn ignition key on.
3. With the engine off, rotate the throttle grip from the closed throttle position to the wide open throttle position and back to closed position 3 times holding the throttle against each stop for one full second.
4. Cycle the key off and back on. |

Hey, thats cool!
Were there hardware changes to do this? Or could I get a reflash to get my 05 to behave this way? Or maybe buy an 08 ECM and directly plug it in?
Probably not, but worth asking. |

Hardware would be required. There's new idle circuitry and control, so you'd need at a minimum to obtain the new throttle body and ECM. I suspect you'd need to become stunningly handsome like Court and me as well. |

Well, since the '08s and up use a crank position sensor, and the '07s and earlier use a cam position sensor, easiest way to get the 'new' TPS re-set would be to buy an '08 and up. Sorry ...... |
