My solenoid started chattering and wouldn't let the starter work. I switched relays and the same thing. I put a good battery in and the same thing. I jumped it from my car and the same thing. I cleaned the solenoid contacts and the same thing. I did all the voltage drop tests and it said to repair the solenoid so I removed the starter. I did the solenoid pull in, hold in and return tests and it passed. The only thing I didn't do is the current draw test, no proper equipment. I put it in a vice and hooked it up for the current draw test, minus the amp meter and it ran just fine. Any ideas? I have a new starter ready to go. Just want to know if I missed anything? |

It's probably not the solenoid. You might be losing current through a poor ground connection from the battery to the starter. Might also be a dirty/poor contact in the starter button or ignition switch. You might try putting in new key switch & start relays. |

I'm thinking of adding a push button end cap for the solenoid, just in case. I cleaned all the grounds. The one for the neg battery cable and the big one from the frame to the swing arm block. The thing was starting to chatter a little bit before the drive belt broke, but it would always start. |

could the key switch make it not start even if my lights and everything come on? 09xb12 |

Supermot, is your bike not starting too? If yes, perhaps start a new thread. It sounds like you're trying to answer 5liter's problem but then you give your bike's symptoms. |
