Anyone know how much back pressure the stock muffler has with the valve open? How bout closed? |

The reason I ask, is that I'm thinking of making a new exhaust. How about a Supertrapp with an interactive valve in it to keep the low end? |

I don't know what kind of back-pressure the stock muffler produces, but the exhaust valve on the XB12 does seem to have some effect on flattening out the torque curve a bit. I don't know if this is due to back-pressure or pulse spacing, or what, but it seems to work pretty well. I personally like the stock can on my XB12Ss. Yes I know it's big, heavy, ugly, and quiet, but it performs pretty well, and there are many advantages to having a quiet bike. I had Sarachu cans on my old Ninja, and while being loud was fun, I eventually changed back to stock, because although expensive, the aftermarket pipes were cheaply made, and just weren't built as well as the stock. After I switched back to stock, I began to "enjoy the silence". That being said, My brother-in-law had a Supertrapp on his H-D and loved it, and I think that there are a lot of H-D's with Supertrapps. So go for it. Although it's not for me, I'm sure that there are a lot of guys in here that would like a Supertrapp. Special Ops has been able to keep the interactive valve in tact and it shows in their dyno results, so I think that a Supertrapp, while retaining the interactive valve, is a great idea. |
