Went out after to work to start the bike and get home before the rain started and turned on the key. Nothing. No lights, horn, fuel pump, Nada ! Turn the key back one position to Park and everything is Hunkey Dorey. I loosened up the trim ring, pushed the switch back through the dash and was able to jiggle the wires around with the key in and turned on and managed to get power and get the bike running. Of course as it is now pouring rain, the Low Fuel light comes on and I have to take the key out to open the fuel cap. You guessed it, no power again. 5 minutes of jiggling, pulling, and pushing on the wires gets me back in business. Other than the obvious loose connection, broken wire, is there anything not so obvious I should look for that anyone has experienced? Also should I plan on taking the fairing as well as the dash off? This weekend is supposed to be the first decent weather we've had on a weekend all summer and I want to ride. Please help if you can. |

Gary, I would say replace the switch. It seams they are a known problem on the bikes |

Thanks Loren, I was afraid someone might say that. I'm sure the dealer won't have one in stock. What happens to the Hard bag latches? I assume I will get new keys with a new switch? Any temp wiring I can do to bypass the switch if that what it turns out to be? Heading out to the garage with a cold beer, my manual, and the hockey game on the garage T.V. |

Looks like the wire going into the switch (Which is sealed from the back). I can bend it a little and it works. Anyone happen to have the part number for an Ignition switch for a 2000 S3T handy? I'll call the dealership in the morning. Thanks. |

Just in case they don't have the Buell part number in stock, is there an identical part available under a H.D. part number? If I lose the opportunity to ride this weekend, (marking the third season I have lost riding time due to parts), I am going to be seriously pissed with my Buell. Thanks for any help you can give! |

You'll need your VIN to get a keyed ignition switch for your bike. It might take a while to get. Mine did the same thing a few years ago and I got an ignition switch off Ebay. It's still on the bike and working. I just have more keys than a house janitor now.............. I think Al at American Sport Bike sells a generic switch. |

Sorry, gotta vent. $293.00 for the kit (Steering, seat, and Ignition lock, not bags. Ignition switch not available as a stand alone part) 4-6 weeks to deliver AFTER I leave them the bike for a day or two to diagnose what I have already found out for them., and then another day or two with them to install. I have no choice if I want it covered under warranty. I must also arrange for a ride to and from the place each time (45 miles). They are also not sure when they can get me in for the initial appointment. I know they are busy, but I took the bike apart, found the problem, left it accessible for them when I go in, you would think that one of the techs could come outside for one minute to jiggle the wire on the back of the switch and confirm the problem. It must be nice to have a business so successful that you can blow people off. If you read my posts here last summer, I dropped the bike off and didn't see it again for 6 weeks or more waiting for a back ordered clutch bearing. I was not impressed. |

I had my ignition switch fail earlier this month [S3T with 30,000 miles]. Dealer wanted $120.00 + 5 day availability. I was 1,000 miles from home so I hot wired it in the Motel 6 parking lot and rode it home. I got a Drag Specialties identical switch for a Sportster for $19.00 once I got home. When I installed same I put in a hot-wire circuit/shunt for the next time it happens. |
