I just looked my 2000 X1 Lightning over and noticed that the upper front motor mount is broken through on the right mount. Anyone know where I can get a new motor mount? Or is there a possible way to repair it? If it safe to ride for a short period of time until I am able to get that fixed? (Not planning on any long rides, just up to the store and back). |

Don't ride it. Things will only get worse if you do. There have been reports of heads breaking (mine) and engines dropping to where they are only being held up by leaning on the front Heim joint mount (also mine) There is always the chance that the engine wild drop to the ground. Replacement parts . . .I would NOT suggest replacing the broken mount with another stock mount. There are a few too many incidents of this failure (design flaw?) to put yourself back into a risk scenario. Some have used the more substantial and less cost controlled earlier mounts from the 1995/1996 S2 models. There is to my knowledge no reports of failure with them. There are after market options as well. I have used the S&S Billet mount with excellent results. http://www.sscycle.com/modules/instruction/uploads /51-1137.pdf |

Did the mount bolt that goes into the head break too? |

I was just about to start a new thread for the same problem / same bike. one bolt snapped off in the head to boot. While I'm at it I noticed another exhaust flange bolt snapped off again It usually takes a day at the track to do this, maybe from the pressure leaning on it with no front motor mount? Pretty much had it sold until saw this. |
