Hi all. I just purchased a used 2001 Blast with under 4K on the clock. The PO told me all the original fluids are in it - figure they all need to be replaced. However, to get it home, had to ride it nearly 100 miles on the Interstate. At one point, I had it up to 80, but it suddenly lost power and I had to pull over on the side of the road. It was dark but I think some smoke was coming off the engine. After about 5 minutes, she fired right up and I rode on home. Anyway, it is very loud at idle and very loud when switching gears - almost sounds like they are stripping a bit when shifting. Any suggestions on what to do first? I know the carb needs cleaned and the PMS screw drilled out and adjusted. Like I said, I need to replace the fluids for sure. Anything else? Any idea what might have made the bike die and then restart? Thanks all. Hil |

New guy from California. My son's 2001 Blast kind of does the same thing. It runs okay at start up and I can ride it for some distance, but then will just start sputtering and quit running. It will start and idle right away, but you can't rev it or pull away from a stop--it will start sputtering and quit running. My son thinks it might be vapor lock, but I think it could be the automatic choke malfunctioning when warm. Does anyone have experience with this issue? |

Hi, I have a similar problem. I have a 2002 blast and its turning over and I even had it running several times. But it has real problems with cold starting. To the point when i drain the battery trying to start it. I have changed the plug today and I am going to attempt to push start it and see if I can get it started. But why is it having these problems? The bike has only 850 miles. It has new gas in it and I even cleaned out the carbs. Do the automatic chokes go bad in these bikes? please help,,,, i am pulling my hair out |
